In my experience Millenials use Student Loans as the reason for why they can’t afford ANYTHING.....a car, a date, marriage, children, etc.
It’s why I’m convinced that loan forgiveness is inevitable. The minute they make-up 50.0001% of the electorate they are gonna vote their way out of debt.
Yes. They are in a tough spot and I don't see how it gets fixed.
My opinion -- Simple fact of biology: Women like Alpha males. They want a man who is strong, and dominant and who will not bend easily to their will.
However, the dominant culture has taught two lessons:
1) Men should be submissive and weak and be afraid of women because if the woman wants to destroy you, she will.
2) Women should be strong and bully anyone and everyone around them. Shout at people and be unreasonable. Bitch Power!
The end result is that these people mix like matter and anti-matter. Plenty of people find a reason to get out of the game.
Mom & Dad can’t afford to keep buying dinner dates for their kids.. simple enough.
Back when we were growing up, there were relatively few sources of entertainment.
So dating had a function of providing a good source of entertainment, either in the form of going to see a movie, or just doing some activity, that you wouldn’t do otherwise.
Now there are so many options for entertainment, there just isn’t the same sense of urgency for people to date.

People my parents age used to tell us how they would go out for a cup of coffee and sit and talk. I’m not talking an expensive Starbucks coffee either.
So what’s wrong with that or does everyone feel they need to make am impression with money?

I remember when I was a freshman in college in 1970 we were asked questions in anonymous surveys about dating and sex and whatnot. Totally worthless surveys because 19 year olds are all going to lie like rugs, especially the boys.
To the extent that any of this hypothesis is actually accurate, the real reason would be selt absorption and selfishness. And for a small number of the [smarter] males, it would be self protection and not having some looney chick ruin their life.
It has become so easy to perpetuate fake rape charges that it has to be scaring off a lot of men who recognize that.

i remember when i was poor and in college, a “date” didn’t have to be expensive ... we could take a ride into the beautiful wilderness around the New River, or maybe car camp there, or go out for a Hardee’s hamburger ...
nowadays, a date could be to go to a movie and then a coffee shop afterwards ... or even a pizza at home and a show from Netflix or Amazon streamed via Roku ...
Got married at 18 and was still in the Army. Had to find a job fast when I got out. I have always been blessed with good jobs, but my marriage turned to $h!t anyway.
In my early 20’s. I did not have a cell-phone or a car. Shared an apartment with 4 guys. My only possessions were my clothes, bed and a beat-up dresser. Dated a ton.

One can go almost anywhere and see guys with no money and have women around them. They say that to get l**d a guy can have 3 things: 1) Looks/physique 2) Money/affluence/resources and 3) game.
Best to have all or a couple of them, but if you had to choose one that would be most important, it would be 3) game.
Date = a 6-pack of Stroh’s (bottles preferred) and a couple of joints - total cost = $5.00...
