Well, the producers of the 007 films have jumped the shark as far as I am concerned and my thinks the box office will crash when 'she' hits the screen--

I think James Bond is out of date now and should simply be discontinued. He was a product of the Cold War, and is a bit out of step today. All the stuff that made 007 “cool”, like his smoking, drinking, womanizing are all too politically incorrect today. Having 007 be played by a woman is the symbolic castration of the character.
[[I grew up in Roger Moores days as 007 and always thought he was a bit fancy for the role.]]
He played Bond as Simon Templar.
She is definitely NOT a kick ass woman, if you want to mindlessly follow along with the latest fad description of feminine beauty.
Unless, of course, Hollywood has succeeded in reshaping what beauty is. I have noticed they are desperately trying.
Yawn......James yawn.
No, I have seen here now. Looks like they will have a very specific audience in mind.
I think they are giving themselves an out in case it bombs. Then they can go back to a male character.
Wonder what Sean Connery’s opinion of this is.
She’s going to play 007 as the Mentalist? LOL
[[I considered Moore to be a tongue in cheek james bond.]]
He played Bond as the Saint.
Another PC piece of garbage that nobody will watch then be accused of some sort of ‘phobia’ while the film tanks.
At their core franchise films are about formula. The Bond producers have been pretty good at keeping the essential elements of the original films which has allowed them to swap in new leads and still be successful.
The essential formula device used in every Bond film that I can think of is the sexual competition between Bond and the male villain over one or more of the villain’s female conquests. Bond seduces the conquest using his superior male charm and this leads to the unraveling of the villain’s plot or at least complicates it by causing him to make dumb mistakes.
I just don’t see how this primordial human male dynamic can be translated to a female lead. Is she going to just seduce the villain away from her competition? Or will she seduce the villain’s female conquest like Bond but with a lesbian twist.
I might accept the action scenes and fight scenes with a female lead with enough CGI and editing but I can’t give up the essential “cool” factor of stealing the villain’s girlfriend as part of his destruction. Maybe this lead change will work but I don’t think they have thought this out very well.
I should add that the article only says Bond comes out of retirement for one last mission, but nothing about the rest of your scenario.
That’s why the suggestion was made before Craig took over the role to reboot the series by setting the films in the original era of the films- about 1959 to 1965.
I watched a bit of some show on TV last week. The female character ran down a fleeing male and proceeded, with a Chuck Norris style and ferocity of battle, to make mince meat of the male. She finally took him out with two back-to-back Chuck Norris style round house kicks. I mean, she almost beat him to death.
Next scene, she had him in an interrogation room. Neither one had a mark on their face.
It was hilarious thing to watch.
That’s a man, baby. And an ugly one. Guess she’ll make out with a Bond Girl at the end.
Haven’t seen a movie in a theater for years. Haven’t watch a 007 movie at a theater (or tv) since the 70s.
That should put the final nail in the coffin for the 007 movies.
Btch be plenty ugly and built very thick.
“Toxic Masculinity in a tuxedo.”
And you have taken a big swig of the toxic masculinity kool-aide. Or you wanted to parade an alliteration.
I stream netflix, and so far have been able to find the forign selections I want.
The white male, with any type of heroism or virtue, MUST be replaced in all venues. Someone has to be the evil villian/fall guy, and if he is not white, it is racism.
