POULTNEY, VT. — For sale: Lightly used college campus complete with Greek revival buildings and a farm, sans livestock. In turnkey move-in condition with a biomass heating system and solar array for electric power.

Price on the 155-acre property is negotiable.

“It’s a beautiful campus. It’s in impeccable shape,” said Tony Blake, a Vermont real estate agent working with the Boston office of the Colliers International to sell the now-empty Green Mountain College.

Citing declining enrollment and rising costs, Green Mountain officials in January said this would be the last year in operation. The school closed in May after its final semester. With about 500 students, a limited endowment and heavy debt load, the school’s trustees said they were simply running out of money... (more at linky)

What the hell is “Public Philosophy,” anyway? And what does someone who majors in “Wilderness & Outdoor Therapy” do for a living?

Take ranting leftists with Trump Derangement Syndrome for long walks in the woods so they can scream as loud as they want.

“One potential problem: a long term loan of almost $20 million with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It wasn’t immediately clear how that would be collected and whether that could complicate a potential sale.”

Just WTF is the USDA doing loaning our tax dollars to a private school?

Sounds to me like a “school” that the rich send their idiot children to, to give them a sham education. Reminds me of another such place among the mansions in Rhode Island, Salve Regina University.

That's quite a list. I'm torn between "Progressive Program", "Self-designed Major", and "Public Philosophy" myself. It's sort of like getting your education delivered to you in a box and finding only styrofoam packing inside.

I'd love to take the project on, to be truthful. New faculty, new administrative staff, new student body, new curricula. No Studies programs, intercollegiate athletics, or "Remedial" anything. The words "Social", "Intersectional", "Hate Speech", and "Sustainable" banned from campus.

Gaudeamus igitur, baby.

High score in sustainability but couldn’t sustain itself!

The only thing dumber then Bernie Sanders are the Vermont voters that have enabled him all these years!

Not sure this would be a solution nowadays but it couldn’t do worse - Repeal the 17th Amendment!

Killington School of Resort Management Natural Resources Management

Probably one of the top schools in the country for a 4 year degree in keeping snow from melting on the ski slope.

Blame Global Warming for the school's failure.

A physical campus for The Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies? Or maybe a branch of Hillsdale College?

The total elimination of an academic department is another way. A good number of colleges have eliminated classical language majors and departments and geography majors and departments.

Actually, those professors will have the easiest time finding another position.

Pity the professor of classical languages or philosophy who studies the real canon and not the leftist intellectual doggerel of today.

Sure, why not?

These are the opportunities we should be taking advantage of.

Time for the guys and gals with the big conservative bucks put it to good use. This is one of them.

Believe me - people are so hungry for a NO BS college that conducts real teaching and encourages meaningful, free dialogue it isn’t funny.

Rush, Sean, et al, don’t let this opportunity go by!

Reminds me of the college in Al Cap’s Li’l Abner series, that went for sale because the regents feared the S.W.I.N.E. (Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything).

It was bought by the Mafia, and the SWINE rioted. I still get a trill remembering the moment the Hippie front tooth assaulted the mob Enforcer’s brass knucks.

An individual I know completed his Masters of Geography in 1990. I laughed when he told me his major and when he graduated.....

I told him, "I learned how to read a map in elementary school. You spent 6 years in college studying the same thing, and by 1992 your degree was obsolete."

So, if you were going to go for the “Self-Designed Major”, what would you be studying?

“What the hell is “Public Philosophy,” anyway?”

Must be the degree held by Comicus, the famous stand-up philosopher.
