An individual I know completed his Masters of Geography in 1990. I laughed when he told me his major and when he graduated.....

I told him, "I learned how to read a map in elementary school. You spent 6 years in college studying the same thing, and by 1992 your degree was obsolete."

It actually has uses to this day...urban/regional planning and transportation planning, for example.

We offer several geography courses at the maritime college in Maine. The newest course is a GIS course, geographical information systems. I know little about the field but our logistics majors find the course useful and employers look favorably on those students who have taken the course.

Sounds as useful as someone graduating in 1990 with a degree in Soviet Union studies. Oh, wait, they could be a politician today.
