Horse surprised me today, showing me a trick she knows. I was standing in front of her asking her to move sideways to the mounting block by gesturing near her shoulder with my training stick. As I did so, she pawed the ground ( a la Mr. Ed) . I gave her a carrot piece and pointed at her other shoulder and she pawed with that hoof too, earning another carrot.

I’ve known her since February and hadn’t seen this before. I asked 2 people who know this horse if her owner taught her this trick. They didn’t think so. She’s a very smart horse. I’m getting this trick on video Thursday when I go back.

Cheers

Weather guy just said we are having one of the rainiest Octobers
on record. I love October. Usually have great weather and the heat and humidity is finally gone. And of course my birthday is in October, that might be why I like it too.

: )

She probably pawed at the ground to say gimme a carrot, and I did. She actually trained me!

Next time apple slices. That will make her even more enthusiastic.

She makes a smiley face after I give her a peppermint. So funny.

With Penny, it’s the Greenie Dental Chews. She does her whole routine for one of those.

This Is Me

Bible in a Year:

Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. James 3:10 The powerful song “This Is Me” is an unforgettable show tune featured in The Greatest Showman, the smash movie musical loosely based on the life of P. T. Barnum and his traveling circus. The lyrics, sung by characters in the film who’d suffered verbal taunts and abuse for failing to conform to societal norms, describe words as destructive bullets and knives that leave scars.

The song’s popularity points to how many people bear the invisible, but real, wounds caused by weaponized words.

James understood the potential danger of our words to cause destructive and long-lasting harm, calling the tongue “a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). By using this surprisingly strong comparison, James emphasized the urgent need for believers to recognize the immense power of their words. Even more, he highlighted the inconsistency of praising God with one breath and then injuring people who are made in God’s image with the next (vv. 9–10).

The song “This Is Me” similarly challenges the truth of verbal attacks by insisting that we’re all glorious—a truth the Bible affirms. The Bible establishes the unique dignity and beauty of each human being, not because of outward appearance or anything we have done, but because we are each beautifully designed by God—His unique masterpieces (Psalm 139:14). And our words to each other and about each other have the power to reinforce that reassuring reality.

Reflect & Pray

Whose forgiveness might you need to seek for using damaging words? How might you encourage someone today?

Creator God, thank You for creating each of us. Help us to use our words both in praise of You and to encourage the people You expertly designed.

I’ve heard good things about those dental chews ( from dog owners, not dogs, lol).

I bought them a few times but the dogs we had then gobbled them down really fast. Probably needed bigger size. They were high energy Dobermans. My current dog would chew slower.

Yes. Even the largest size (expensive!) is a cinch for Penny’s jaws. It takes her at least five seconds to consume one, whereas other cookies take less than one.

I think that’s why I only bought them a couple times.
I saw money getting swallowed too fast.
But a friend of mine gave her dog one everyday and the dog had nice white teeth.

Sunshine here today.

Taking Moose for a walk in a few minutes. Looks nice out.

Oh cute, fast food!
They are paying as much attention as I do to a Trump rally speech.
Must see TV.
