People who post ‘God’ and ‘pray’ on Facebook are more likely to develop these...conditions

Facebook... posts may be able to predict whether someone will develop diabetes and other conditions including depression, anxiety, alcohol abuse, sexually-transmitted diseases, and drug abuse better than demographic information like age, sex, and race.

People who often use the words “God” and “pray” in their Facebook posts are 15 times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than people who rarely use those terms on the platform, a new study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine finds.

Raina Merchant, the lead author of the study and the director of Penn Medicine’s Center for Digital Health, said she didn’t know exactly why “God” and “pray” were linked to diabetes.

Perhaps less surprisingly, the words “drink” and “bottle” predict alcohol abuse, and expletives suggest drug abuse. “Social media posts are often about someone’s lifestyle choices and experiences or how they’re feeling,” Merchant wrote.

Merchant’s team conducted a similar study last year and found that Facebook posts could predict a diagnosis of depression three months before the diagnosis at a clinic.

“It’s not surprising that someone who is depressed may be posting about their mood,” Merchant told MarketWatch in an interview. “But we have less knowledge of the language of, say, diabetes, so it’s something we wanted to look into.”

Merchant is hopeful that social-media posts could one day help doctors diagnose diseases like diabetes early or prevent them altogether, but there’s still more research to do before your doctor begins analyzing your status updates. Merchant plans to conduct a large study later this year that shares social-media information directly with health providers.

“There is so much data and we, as providers, aren’t trained to interpret it ourselves,”

Analyzing social-media posts presents obvious privacy concerns, but the ability to predict or prevent diabetes could save Americans a lot of money.

Doubtful....he’s one of these kids the libs like to call their own. Since he supports gays could be he is one...who knows...but one of the things Dems do is “use” these kids on a constant. They’ve indoctrinated them so well all they have to do is push their ego buttons and it’s a go....

African Americans are more likely to mention their religion online, according to a survey of online dating profiles I once read. And given that African American churches are largely Democrat-friendly, they are the ones most likely to be comfortable talking about their religion in public.

That's exactly right.

I have an old friend, a Church goer, who has Type 2 diabetes and a heart condition. He is grossly overweight.

He refuses to even consider changes to his diet, declaring that he is on "low fat" and that's the end of that discussion.

I mentioned to his wife that "low fat" has been pretty much disregarded/discarded nowadays as ineffective, but she just rolls her eyes. I suggested Keto or at least low carb and her response was she would rather follow the "low carb" regime despite the fact that it isn't working. BTW, this woman is a registered nurse.

Long story short, it is completely illogical that a person with a potentially deadly condition would refuse to even discuss a cure that has been proven to work.

I think it speaks to the power that eating, food, and gluttony has over people in general.

Society speaks clearly in its disapproval of alcohol and drug abuse, but not about the addiction to food.

I applaud and adhere to this sort of independent, seat-of-your-pants journalism, where the seat of your pants is stuck to a chair in front of your favorite website.

To wit:

My studies indicate people who post expressions such as

Vanity: WTF Mods? Why POST 57 DELETE??????

Everybody knows Cruz would have been better.

SCARMABLE! COLORADO PEACE INBOUND!

BREAKING NEWS: URGENT Prayer request for one of my cats!

on Free Republic are more likely to suffer conditions such as Premature Zots,

Terminal Stuning,

and the mysterious but deadly Reason: pulled.

Well tell him (and his wife) if he doesn’t he can call it quits on any sexual activity. I know a guy who wouldn’t drop the weight or listen to his Dr. either......not only is he now on diabetic medication that curbs the sex drive... but he has “outbreaks” where a guy wouldn’t want that to happen. Needless to say his lady friend cut and ran.

Heheh. This guy and his wife are so overweight that the very thought of them having a sex life is too gross to contemplate.

In fact, I would say that their conditions collectively are not only impediments to their own sex life, but to the sex lives of all who know them.

Photos posted on street corners of them fully clothed could bring population booms in India or China to a screeching halt.

All Facebook posters will die one day. But not all get the same next chapter. Learn Isaiah 53 and John 17.

What kind of investment “marketwatch” discusses thoughts and prayer posts?

Marxistwatch is just an anti-Trump mess. CNN with some graphs basically.
