Ice is melting in unprecedented ways as summer approaches in the Arctic. In recent days, observations have revealed a record-challenging melt event over the Greenland ice sheet, while the extent of ice over the Arctic Ocean has never been this low in mid-June during the age of weather satellites.
Greenland saw temperatures soar up to 40 degrees above normal Wednesday, while open water exists in places north of Alaska where it seldom, if ever, has in recent times.
Its another series of extreme events consistent with the long-term trend of a warming, changing Arctic, said Zachary Labe, a climate researcher at the University of California at Irvine.
And the abnormal warmth and melting of ice in the Arctic may be messing with our weather.
Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center show that the Greenland ice sheet appears to have witnessed its biggest melt event so early in the season on record this week (although a few other years showed similar mid-June melting).

NASA Declares Carbon Dioxide Is Greening The Earth

In direct contradiction to the scare stories about carbon dioxide being relentlessly pushed by the climate change alarmists, a scientific study published in Nature Climate Change and highlighted by NASA reveals that rising carbon dioxide levels are having a tremendously positive impact on the re-greening of planet Earth over the last three decades, with some regions experiencing over a 50% increase in plant life. The study, entitled, âGreening of the Earth and its drivers,â used satellite data to track and map the expansion of green plant growth across the globe from 1982 â 2015. Published in 2016, this study found that rising atmospheric carbon...
It’s all that demonrat hot air.
And if worse comes to worse, we’ll have more arable land to grow crops.
1922?
That’s pretty stupid.
I recall an Art Bell show, one of the ones with real scientists on...
His guest pointed out that the British mid-19th century expeditions to find a Northwest Passage sequentially failed earlier and earlier because of the growing ice sheet.
(Granted, it was on the other side of NA, but still about the same general latitudes.)
Theres probably some kind of connection to be made between liberal analysis of the climate and Democrats counting votes.
Not Global warming...Global changing. This little hot rock floating in freezing space does go through changes. Kind of what warm things do when they meet cold things.
Meanwhile it was in the 40’s this week here in the South
The reason papers like the Washington Post suck - and writers like Jason Samenow are an embarrassment to the profession - it because they consistently choose example that (while true) present a lie.
Had Jason Samenow chosen to only covered stories of places consistently COLDER than normal it would still be technically ‘truth - but a 'truth' that creates the larger lie... Which is typical of the Washington Post. Typical in their climate coverage and of their news coverage - and it's why newspapers are dying.
32 is freezing plus 40 means the water is 72 degrees in Greenland. Unless they were talking centigrade then the water would be 104.
No glaciers on Greenland 300 years ago?
I think you’ve been misinformed; were it true, the sea level would have risen and fallen tens of feet in that period.
Obvious, those are the freezing/melting points. But the water temperature off Greenland is much lower than 70*. I am currious why they don’t say what the temperature is.
“the extent of ice over the Arctic Ocean has never been this low in mid-June during the age of weather satellites.”... So the past 50 years we’ve haven’t seen this sort of melting... Which leaves only 4.5 billions years where we didn’t have satellites and this same sort of phenomena may have occurred. My guess is that in 1936 it may have occurred, that was a pretty warm year... But we didn’t have satellites back then.
Wow... No wonder I’m sweating.... Oh, wait... I have the heat turned up.
Wow... No wonder I’m sweating.... Oh, wait... I have the heat turned up.
Things are the same now as they were under Obama.
Somehow it was never his fault
But Im 59. Ive seen it before. Young ones think its the end of the earth.

I’m 76 and in Wisconsin. We are having another cool spring/summer, also wetter than average. However: the temperatures are about where they _used_ to be back in the 1960s/1970s. Ditto for the very cold winter we just had, except we have had colder ones within the past 30 years.
It’s a cycle.
