From Newsweek, July 2013...
-snip-
The ironyand its a rich oneis that Leno has never been more dominant: the Nielsen ratings for the second week in July have him beating CBSs David Letterman by a 43 percent margin in the all-important viewers 18 to 49 category (on which advertising rates are set) and swamping ABCs Jimmy Kimmel by a crushing 75 percent.
The total viewers number is a similar story, with Leno delivering 3.3 million compared with Lettermans 2.6 million and Kimmels 2 million. Not counting a two-year rough patch after Letterman was enthroned at CBS in 1993, that makes 17 seasons in which Leno has won his time period since he started hosting the iconic show on May 25, 1992.
So why sack him now? I dont get it, says Ohlmeyer, who as president of NBCs West Coast operations in the mid-1990s helped guide Leno to victory over Letterman.
Its like nobody understands history.
Here they take him off the air four years ago, and naturally he loses his impetus, and now hes come back, and hes kicking ass againso lets take him off. ...
Ohlmeyer retorts: Oh, bullshit. Im sure Jay says that to everybody who asks him, but for the Jay that I know, his heart has to be breaking about this. All he wanted to do in his life was The Tonight Show. ...

Are you Obama's? You see how the left tries to control every aspect of our culture. How could you not think that Leno's criticism of commie Obama would not have seriously troubled him and the rest of his hard left ilk.
Out of ignorance?? Members of my family worked for Carson’s show for 35 years and knew all the infighting between Letterman and Leno. Leno was the snake in that fight which is why a lot of the writers went with Letterman over Leno. Leno was all for quitting until he actually had to resign. Then he wanted to stay. Later on, he was actually seen outside the studios much to the amusement of staff!
For the record, I much prefer Leno as a comic. I saw him at a venue in LA years ago and he was brilliant. But to blame Obama for his “demise”...ridiculous.
You don’t recall him telling an Obama joke because he didn’t tell a lot of Obama jokes. That’s not to say he never told them but he tried, like Carson, to be an equal opportunity offender. In that regard, he was very different than Letterman who was under the Svengali influence of his left wing producer.
Post #45 ludicrously retells a joke that supposedly Leno told but which is actually a very badly worded reworking of a line from Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters”. The line was said by Max Von Sydow in one of his few comic performances. The joke was written by Allen.
Do not expect freepers to know what they’re talking about most of the time.
Marking.
IMHO this all leads back to FDR. He was the Architect of class warfare. Pitting Americans against each other. This was the prototype. Then in the 60’s the rats added race as the wedge. Now we have an entire generation of blacks who were taught that the majority population hates them and wants to keep a boot on thier throats. The result is Nation torn in half. All so the Rats keep 90% of the black vote.
My observation. Fallon started out more or less apolitical. I think he doesnt like politics. But somewhere in the second year he joined the daily ridicule trump bunch. When a guest makes an antitrump statement he looks a little uncomfortable. Meyers Colbert and kümmel are persistent ridiculers of trump with clear agendas. So Fallon is the best bad guy
Was a Yuge Letterman fan back in the day. I even wrote to the new network in support of the “Worlds Most Dangerous Band”. Letterman himself was imploding under the pressure while cashing million dollar checks.
Just sad.
Only if you can verify that Border Patrol is paying for the flight!
Heres a gal I admire highly, ... as a person who has taken a stand on issues that at times were unpopular ... called a radical.
Its a funny thing, how people who were called radical at the time are now considered people who were right on.

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:
"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."
January, 1971: Jane Fonda raises funds for the Winter Soldier Investigation through a series of benefit concerts. Participants include Fonda, Dick Gregory, Donald Sutherland, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs. Fonda is named Honorary National Coordinator of the event.
February 16, 1971: Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland form "FTA" (F*** The Army), an anti-war, anti-American road show that tours near Army bases in order to undermine troop morale. Skits and songs portray American defeats, soldiers refusing to fight, and the murder of officers by their troops. FTA cast members mingle with soldiers after the shows, encouraging them to desert or to sabotage the Army.
Yes, yes, Carson was a commie. They’re all commies except St. Jay.
What a bunch of hokum and lies. NBC signed a contract in Obrien in 2004 that he’d be the next host of the Tonight Show when Leno’s contract ran out in 2009. TWO THOUSAND AND FOUR. That’s why they got rid of Leno, they were contractually obligated to LONG before Obama was president.
The Leno line I liked was: “I heard that the NBA’s Washington Bullets are changing their name because they don’t like the association with crime and violence. From now on, they will just be known as the Bullets.” :)
Agreed. I was twice in the audience of the Tonight Show.
Of course you're once again being the snooty wise-ass elitist that you are. Guess you can't help yourself.
In any case, are you seriously trying to deny that Carson was sympathetic and supportive of commie Jane Fonda's activities during the Vietnam war? Surely you can't be that dumb or naive?

I would add Fallon has the backing of Lorne michels a force at nbc
ROTFL!
I have always liked Jay Leno’s political humor. It is pretty bipartisan and not mean-spirited. And unlike Steven Colbert, it is actually funny. When Leno did political humor, it had the tone of a good-natured roast.
Of course you stupidly confuse his introduction of guests with his monologues. Two different things.
Carson NEVER dissed any of his guests with the possible exception of Barbra Streisand when she was a no-show because he wouldn’t change the seating arrangements.
Monologues were different. Whoever made a faux pas that day - be it a pol or a baseball player or Wayne Newton - was the butt of the joke.
Carson had no political point of view despite claiming to be a liberal. His two interests in life were comedy writing and astronomy. Not astrology, astronomy. He admired comedy writers out of all proportion and would often invite them to his home over much more famous people. His beach home was fitted with equipment that would have put NASA to shame.
