“Raging Bull” star Robert De Niro is worth over a half-billion dollars, an attorney said Thursday as the famous actor spars with his estranged wife over the terms of their divorce.
The new details about the Hollywood star’s finances emerged during a hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court that revealed the two are battling over how to interpret a 2004 pre-nuptial agreement signed after a previous divorce.
“Ms. Hightower has taken the position, 'Nope, I’m entitled to 50%,” Judge Matthew Cooper said.
“We are not talking about hundreds of thousands — we are talking millions of dollars here.”
De Niro attorney Krauss-Browne said that under the terms of the pre-nup Hightower was entitled to a $6 million apartment, $500,000 cash, $1 million each year and half the value of their marital residence. Hightower claims to earn only $15,000 a year, Krauss-Browne said.

She believes she is entitled to a cut of 38 movies and 35 new business ventures since 2004 that involved the Oscar-winning actor.
Hightower attorney Allan Mantel put the couple’s revenue since their pre-nup at $300 million — $250 million of which came from movies. He estimated that De Niro’s net worth was $500 million.
In addition to De Niro’s work in Hollywood, much of their earnings came from his ownership of the Nobu chain of restaurants and Greenwich Hotel.
Hightower’s frustration that she was not considered an equal led to their previous divorce in 1999, Mantel said.

I “almost” feel bad for Cage. She got a divorce after four days of marriage.
I’ve never seen DeNiro in person but I doubt he’s 5’2”. Like most “stars”, he’s quite short though. He has turned out to be a real ahole, though. Sad.

Of course I dunno the truth but there’s some hilarious photos of him wearing shoes with gigantic soles... and I ran across a woman who says she met him at a Hollywood party and looked him directly in the eye when they spoke... she’s 5’2”. Makes a good story.

I think it was actor Robert Conrad who I met at some fund raiser in the ‘80s. I was really surprised at how short he was. His wiki says he’s 5’8”. Not a chance.
I understand that, so is California. Don't make it right. The idea of equitable distribution came from when women had a rough time after their husbands divorced them. Lots more options now. Especially for a woman guaranteed $500k AND a million dollar apartment.

It is the 9 community property states that are better for women in a divorce if the husband works and makes lots of money while the wife doesn’t work. She gets half.
As much as this man is a cockroach in a human suit, I very much hope that the prenup stands.
Divorce laws and family courts, as they currently work, make the man in a heterosexual relationship a walking lootbox that the woman can open any time she pleases. And there’s virtually nothing you can do to protect yourself in advance. Depending on where it happens your pre-nups may well have all the legal power of toilet paper. So if his get ruled as valid it’s a win for men and for the institution of marriage, small as it may be.
