Details of Robert De Niro’s half-billion dollar fortune emerge in divorce hearing

“Raging Bull” star Robert De Niro is worth over a half-billion dollars, an attorney said Thursday as the famous actor spars with his estranged wife over the terms of their divorce.

The new details about the Hollywood star’s finances emerged during a hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court that revealed the two are battling over how to interpret a 2004 pre-nuptial agreement signed after a previous divorce.

“Ms. Hightower has taken the position, 'Nope, I’m entitled to 50%,” Judge Matthew Cooper said.

“We are not talking about hundreds of thousands — we are talking millions of dollars here.”

De Niro attorney Krauss-Browne said that under the terms of the pre-nup Hightower was entitled to a $6 million apartment, $500,000 cash, $1 million each year and half the value of their marital residence. Hightower claims to earn only $15,000 a year, Krauss-Browne said.

[More New York] Times Square terror suspect wanted to lob grenades at cops and civilians: sources » Hightower, 64, is arguing she is entitled to much more — and that De Niro, 75, has kept her in the dark about their money since 2008. She believes she is entitled to a cut of 38 movies and 35 new business ventures since 2004 that involved the Oscar-winning actor.

Hightower attorney Allan Mantel put the couple’s revenue since their pre-nup at $300 million — $250 million of which came from movies. He estimated that De Niro’s net worth was $500 million.

In addition to De Niro’s work in Hollywood, much of their earnings came from his ownership of the Nobu chain of restaurants and Greenwich Hotel.

Hightower’s frustration that she was not considered an equal led to their previous divorce in 1999, Mantel said.

With that kind of money, this BUM doesn’t care what kind of government administrations we have, he IS ABOVE it all.

No wonder he likes the crazy people in politics. They give good parties and nothing they do affects him.

What a nasty individual this diseased brain truly is.

Does ANYONE still want to see him in films??

I suspected that to be the case, but couldn’t really provide something to buttress the impression.

That’s my view of a number of things most people think are iron clad when it comes to law.

Everything is open to challenge. A lot of claims would be shot down, but if you can come up with an angle that makes sense or there is a prior similar case on record where a similar claim prevailed, you have a chance.

Not an attorney, but that seems rather obvious.

Some businesses publish non-responsibility notices on their documents. I often wonder just how well that would stand up in court under certain circumstances.

>>>The couple’s revenue increased since their pre-nup at $300 million — ($250 million came from movies).
It is now estimated De Niro’s net worth is $500 million.

Assuming these figures are correct, she either gets the pre-nup amount ($1 million per year plus this and that) OR half the marital property. HALF the marital property is the INCREASE in their (actually, his) net worth since 2004; or, $100 million. This seems pretty obvious to me. But, it also seems pretty obvious to me that De Niro has gone wackadoodle.

De Niro hooked up with a bald headed dude?

She looks to outweigh him by 80 lbs and could choke him out with one (man) hand.

Humm, sounds like a lot of money to assemble given the tax rates in NY. Then again, the tax people in NY seem to spend an inordinate amount of effort trying to find dirt on Trump.

I hope she cleans him out just as the IRS lands on him with a jeopardy assessment.

Prenuptual agreements and postnuptual agreements aren’t particularly airtight and are wide open to challenges when things go south. It’s easy to argue an unfair negotiating advantage when there’s a wide disparity of wealth between the parties.

It is precisely when there is a wide disparity of wealth between parties, that a prenup is most wanted by the wealthier party. She was a waitress when she started dating DeNiro. I doubt that she contributed in any significant way to his wealth.

If prenups are made effectively worthless, then that will most likely result in wealthy individuals not marrying at all.

An argument could be made that revenue from movies he made before marriage should not be counted as marital property, even if paid after the wedding.
