Details of Robert De Niro’s half-billion dollar fortune emerge in divorce hearing

“Raging Bull” star Robert De Niro is worth over a half-billion dollars, an attorney said Thursday as the famous actor spars with his estranged wife over the terms of their divorce.

The new details about the Hollywood star’s finances emerged during a hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court that revealed the two are battling over how to interpret a 2004 pre-nuptial agreement signed after a previous divorce.

“Ms. Hightower has taken the position, 'Nope, I’m entitled to 50%,” Judge Matthew Cooper said.

“We are not talking about hundreds of thousands — we are talking millions of dollars here.”

De Niro attorney Krauss-Browne said that under the terms of the pre-nup Hightower was entitled to a $6 million apartment, $500,000 cash, $1 million each year and half the value of their marital residence. Hightower claims to earn only $15,000 a year, Krauss-Browne said.

[More New York] Times Square terror suspect wanted to lob grenades at cops and civilians: sources » Hightower, 64, is arguing she is entitled to much more — and that De Niro, 75, has kept her in the dark about their money since 2008. She believes she is entitled to a cut of 38 movies and 35 new business ventures since 2004 that involved the Oscar-winning actor.

Hightower attorney Allan Mantel put the couple’s revenue since their pre-nup at $300 million — $250 million of which came from movies. He estimated that De Niro’s net worth was $500 million.

In addition to De Niro’s work in Hollywood, much of their earnings came from his ownership of the Nobu chain of restaurants and Greenwich Hotel.

Hightower’s frustration that she was not considered an equal led to their previous divorce in 1999, Mantel said.

I’m surprised that wealthy men marry. It would be cheaper to just hire a woman for a year, pay her a million, and hire another one before “palimony” liability kicks in.

Cue Obama to let Bobby know that he didn’t build that fortune.

I AM taking sides.

Wanting both to lose is taking a side.

Looks like Brown Sugar is leaving a bitter taste in DeNiro’s mouth.

I would think the prenuptial was a legally binding document, but I don’t know how the courts view these things.

If she was his wife and at his side, it would seem to me she deserves more than a figurative pittance.

The family wealth grew. She was his wife. Why should he be able to shield his income from her?

Still, she did agree to signing the prenuptial.

Will be interesting to watch.

I’ve always operated under the theory that the first million or two is life changing, and anything over that is icing on the cake.

I’m not suggesting she should get half his estate, she did sign the prenup, but his lifestyle isn’t going to be impacted if she gets $25-$100 million.

Yep, they are already checking in like clockwork. They remind me of Maynard G. Krebs when the word “WORK” is used, only their word is “alimony”.

Take him to the cleaners, honey.

Does it really matter? He is almost 76 years old. Even if she cuts him down by half, he’ll have a real hard time spending $250M in his remaining time on Earth.

Prenuptual agreements and postnuptual agreements aren’t particularly airtight and are wide open to challenges when things go south. It’s easy to argue an unfair negotiating advantage when there’s a wide disparity of wealth between the parties.

Not saying it won’t hold, but just saying a competent bright third year law student can craft the arguemnts to challenge either.

All teeth baring here aside and we do detest DeNiro far more than his several chocolate wives if there is a pre nuptial agreement then I can promise it will not be tossed out

Her lawyer is going through public assault and media manipulation to try to get more than the prenuptial allows for her and by extension himself

Given what a complete and total dullard jackass he is we can all hope he takes a hit and at the same time established law and precedent is followed

Is that fair?

For the record I don’t have prenuptial but if I had private jet momey I likely would for the sake of my children

It takes a federal agency to blow through that kind of money.
