For weeks, the Jeopardy! phenomenon James Holzhauer had been unstoppable.
He set the record for the most money won in one episode, holds the second spot on the list, and the next 14. Eleven times during his winning streak, he went a whole game without buzzing in incorrectly. For fans, the question was not whether he would surpass the $2.52 million Ken Jennings won during his record 74-game winning streak in 2004, but when.
The correct response:
What is never?
In the prerecorded episode that aired on Monday, Holzhauers Jeopardy! reign came to an end with his 33rd game, a tantalizing $58,484 shy of Jenningss mark. The number of the day turned out to be $22,002, the amount that separated him from the winner, a librarian from Chicago named Emma Boettcher.
The surprising end caused even the famously dispassionate host to practically lose his composure.
What a game! Alex Trebek exclaimed after Boettchers final score popped up. Oh my gosh!
Holzhauer walked over to give Boettcher a high-five.
Nobody likes to lose, Holzhauer said in an interview. But Im very proud of how I did, and I really exceeded my own expectations for the show. So I dont feel bad about it.

I love that Emma the librarian is the one who ended his streak.
A lot of speculation that he threw it with detailed reasons why.
I don’t watch Jeopardy so I don’t know.
I am sure we will see James square off against Ken on the next “Tournament of Champions”. I am still shocked that James went down. He finally faced an opponent who used his Daily Double/large bet/correct answer strategy against him.
What are some of the alleged reasons?
“I dont watch Jeopardy”
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune might be the only clean, non-political shows on evening TV (not counting reruns of old material).
Interesting. Can you give a brief explanation of why?
My parents have started watching some of those shows. They like it, but they also stated that there really isnt much money involved in the much-vaunted Jeopardy show. Interesting point. They were a bit put off by how losers might not get anything, while other shows let them walk off with something.
it fits into two categories
Reasons why he would do it- like he is a gambler and perhaps made a bet, didn’t want to break record, etc.
Reasons why they think he did it based on the show and his history.
Since I dont watch it I only skimmed and didnt really pay attention..but for example, category is one he knows, etc.
It’s really pretty obvious. First, he intentionally only rang in for one Daily Double....
I told a friend a few days ago what it would take to beat him and it played out exactly that way.
They would have to be good, get and make a high wager true double jeopardy. Also be a little bit lucky.
Mu friend is president of Mensa for a 14 county area.
James Holzhauer will be interviewed on the Dan Patrick Show before 11AM EDT (about 15 mins from now)

“Its really pretty obvious. First, he intentionally only rang in for one Daily Double....”
Or to be slightly more accurate, Emma rang in quicker than him on two daily doubles.
Something about his ringing in has people questioning his motive based on how he rang in with previous shows.
My wife and I watched all the James shows. Yesterday morning at work I saw a headline on some website about James losing to a woman. I clicked on it and the author wrote that the woman who beat him was named Emma and that her bid on Final Jeopary was $20,000 and that James only bet $1,900. I told my wife about it as we were sitting waiting for the show to begin. When I noticed the woman on the right named “Emma” is said “Uh oh” and then noticed that James was wearing a collared shirt which was the first time I recall seeing him in anything but collar-less I told me wife that the internet rumor was probably true and sure enough it was over for him. We both agreed that he would probably decide when it was time to go and it appeared that last night he did not do much to snatch victory away. It was probably time for him to get the hell out of LA and back to his home and young family. Plus the NFL 2019 season is developing with organized team activities so he is probably boning up on the upcoming season. Good luck with your bets, James.
Disclaimer....I did not see his final show
Our ABC/NBC dual affiliate, WBOY Clarksburg, WV experienced technical difficulties during its airing. The station later announced it would be broadcast at 4:00AM Tuesday, but.........no way.
“Plus the NFL 2019 season is developing with organized team activities so he is probably boning up on the upcoming season”
These shows were taped in March
Yeah I love that too. :D
If I remember correctly, Ken Jennings ended up being a Trump hater.
