Our 'Greeneyes' has been FOUND, but she is having computer issues, so I have been asked to keep the Weekly Garden Thread rolling until she returns.
That said, I will be posting once a week, and I will TRY to stick to her schedule of a Friday Night/Saturday Morning Weekly Post, but it depends upon what is going on here at MY farm. (It's Spring; it's BUSY!)
The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Oh, sure. Back when I worked for Seed Savers, my home garden was basically a test plot for them.
Amish Paste is nice, big and meaty, but I find the newer cultivars to be a lot more disease resistant with greater production.
wild raspberry patches all over
My 10 year old paw paw trees have blooms for the first time. I am beyond excited. Reddish bloom in the center of the picture.
Jack in the pulpit bed outside a downstairs window under the deck.
half the bed
the other half. Unruly par at the end is the asparagus patch
Besides asparagus I have dill, cilantro and Italian parsley coming up, some basil, brussel sprouts, broccoli, san Marzano and better boy tomatoes, a couple of sabre tomato plants I have not put in yet, some sweet banana and red pappers, Chinese long beans along the bottom of the small fence piece, bush cucumbers, a baby bell squash, romaine and red romain, green beans just starting to come up and my trio row along the fromt, green onions, 4 kinds of radishes (one is a yellow ukrainian one I love)and a row of green beans just coming up. I really enjoy looking at everyones pictures and hope to have more this year. Happy gardening everyone.
Don’t tell Lady Bender I’m viewing tomato porn in the garden thread!!!
I’ve probably mentioned this before, but if you ever want the compact plant size of a determinate, but the never-ending harvest of an indeterminate, try Punta Banda. It’s one of the varieties Jackie Clay sells, and I think they’re outstanding! The fruits are in between a small slicer and a large cherry, but the stem pulls free so they’re easy to juice whole. The plant stays short and bushy, so you don’t even need to cage it. And it produces so much that it often looks like a pile of colored golf balls instead of a plant.
Thanks to some tips from Applegate Ranch, I can post my OWN pictures again! Happy, Happy! These are some Cherry Belle Radishes I just picked the other day.
LOL! Thanks for the tips on posting my OWN photos.
I’m BACK, BABY! :)
Beautiful! Terrific! :)
I think you HAVE told me about that variety in Real Life! Help me to remember to get seeds for that one next season.
I was just happy to get my 20 tomatoes IN - nice sunny-ish day for them, today. Peppers going in probably on Sunday.
Boy, has my ATTITUDE ever improved with 48 hours of dry weather! :)
I never kiss tomatoes and tell! ;)

Our handsome Beagle, Chief! I'm just so happy I can share my photos with y'all again!
Woof.Woof...
I am selling my book.
EMERGENCIES HAPPEN! BE PREPARED NOW!
If you would like this book, write me at mards.derrick@aol.com and I will respond.
Everyone, I am selling my book because book agents and publishers only buy recipe books and those who tell their story of having an affair with a famous person. :o)
Send me an email if you are interested in this book.
So much of the book came from this gardening thread and our angel Johnny.
As for me, I am now 85. Had some trouble this past year starting in May, 2018. A few vertebra in my neck collapsed and pressed a nerve going through both shoulders and both wrists. That was major pain and I could not use my arms without pain. I now have a new orthopedic doc pain specialist of three weeks ago who knew where to place the Cortisone shots and stop the pain.
I am lucky to be as good as I am.
I have started a new book:
“The New Testament - For Thinkers”
I have been teaching a Bible class made up of Seniors.
I am starting back on this board. I know I missed a number of names and some listed were not on this board but on other FR threads, but I have never forgotten the learning and fun we had here. Never go away.
Those radishes look perfect. There is nothing I like better than a fresh picked radish. I won’t even buy ones in the store.
Marcella! Dear one. You have been missed. And Johnny, I think about home every day I am on FR. Just today on another thread someone told someone else to “pound sand”. An expression Johnny used frequently. I’ll be sending you an email. I’m sure there is a lot of wisdom in our book. God bless!
You might want to also post on the most recent prepper thread. Some old friends still around. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3745985/posts
So glad to hear from you. Will go to prepper thread to see if any “old” ones are there. Surely some are. Thanks so much.
Marcella
Please read what I just put on the gardening thread. I did not know you were still here on FR. Will go to the thread where I just saw your name.
Marcella
Oh Marcella, it is so good to hear from you again. Lady Bender and I are still growing a garden in spite of the colder than normal temps here on Humboldt Bay. Johnnies name comes up from time to time as does Swampsniper...
You will here from me soon for a book...
Yay! Glad you’re back and doing well!
I’ll make sure you’re on the Ping List for this group.
