here seems to be an air of pretension among aficionados of jazz and classical music, psychological research is giving them good reason.
A new study published in Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences suggests that those who prefer instrumental music tend to be more intelligent.
Study author Elena Racevska, a PhD student at Oxford Brookes University, became interested in how musical preference is tied to personality traits as she learned about the Savanna-IQ Interaction Hypothesis, which presumes that more intelligent individuals seek more novel experiences compared to less intelligent people.
After reading Kanazawas papers, one of which was on the relationship between intelligence and musical preferences, we decided to further test his hypothesis using a different set of predictors namely, a different type of intelligence test (i.e. a nonverbal measure), and the uses of music questionnaire, says Racevska. We also measured a number of variables likely to have an effect in this relationship, such as taking part in extra-curricular music education, its type and duration.

I don't listen to Motörhead all the time...but when I do, my neighbors do too.

I wonder what the above says about me ?
We love the Live in HD. They broadcast the opera live from the Met in high definition to movie theaters in 70 countries around the world. Not only do you get the opera, there is a host who interviews the singers and gives you information.
It usually costs us about $20-25 and we can do it locally.
It’s great.
And if you visit fathomevents.com you can get listings for the summer encores in June and July.
The3 MET has gotten a bit WEIRD, here and there, in the past decade+ ( staging, costumes, sets ) and I really HATED what they did to THE MAGIC FLUTE, so though I love that operetta ( yes, many call it an opera, but it isn't and never was meant to be one ), there's just so much of stupid changes I'm willing to accept. Ergo, I can watch it on T.V. for nothing and IF I hate what they've done to the opera, I'll shut it off, with no loss.
Having grown up with this stuff, from day 1, and knowing some opera greats, whilst I do love the music, etc., I do tend to be rather hide-bound about it; even more So re G&S!
Do you ever watch the Met at the Movies?
I've heard it on records, on the radio, seen it live...at the Met, and watch it on T.V.; that's enough for me. Hell, Renata Tibaldi lived above my parents, in the '60s and because of how the air ducks were positioned in that building, you could hear her practicing in the guest bathroom, which was VERY unnerving!
They have it pretty much everywhere. Check Fandango. If there is a theater in your area that has it, it will be listed under that date.
It looks like they’re doing several of the classics this coming season.
Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
I ONLY like the old warhorses and then, not all of them. ;^) For example,I hope to NEVER see nor hear LOVE OF THREE ORANGES ever again; once was more than I cared for.
I am absolutely thinking about the ABB reading this. Also about a good student I know who always has on hans Zimmerman or some such soundtrack
They listened to jazz. John Coltrane and miles davis also the delta blues and much more.

I could do without/not interested at all in six or seven of them, but the rest are great picks! :-)
A shame there's no Wagner or Bizet.
One of my favorite albums of all time
Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd_Kti6jvy8
Everything was totally improvised
“widely regarded as the most melodic guitar solo ever recorded.”
I’ve never heard that before. It is a most magic melody and always puts a smile on my face.
Indeed, I knew that it was done nearly identically by both studios, but I wasn't aware that the Technicolor labs may have precipitated that odd coincidence.
FWIW, I don't recall the T&J version at all from my animation-packed childhood. Saw it for the first time a few years ago on YouTube. The Warner Bros. version - that one I know well enough to get incensed when someone censors the scene with the revolver.
Liszts Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 was certainly a huge pop culture phenomenon for years - I'm pretty sure it was in a few Marx Brothers films too. It still turns up even today; Trans-Siberian Orchestra has a piece based on it called "Wish Liszt".
Incredible!
I’m more eclectic - it it was doe well, I like it....my collection contains a broad spectrum...for pure instrumental, I prefer piano/sax/cello (I guess not having banjo on the list is a plus)....
