We love the Live in HD. They broadcast the opera live from the Met in high definition to movie theaters in 70 countries around the world. Not only do you get the opera, there is a host who interviews the singers and gives you information.
It usually costs us about $20-25 and we can do it locally.
It’s great.
And if you visit fathomevents.com you can get listings for the summer encores in June and July.
The3 MET has gotten a bit WEIRD, here and there, in the past decade+ ( staging, costumes, sets ) and I really HATED what they did to THE MAGIC FLUTE, so though I love that operetta ( yes, many call it an opera, but it isn't and never was meant to be one ), there's just so much of stupid changes I'm willing to accept. Ergo, I can watch it on T.V. for nothing and IF I hate what they've done to the opera, I'll shut it off, with no loss.
Having grown up with this stuff, from day 1, and knowing some opera greats, whilst I do love the music, etc., I do tend to be rather hide-bound about it; even more So re G&S!
