The3 MET has gotten a bit WEIRD, here and there, in the past decade+ ( staging, costumes, sets ) and I really HATED what they did to THE MAGIC FLUTE, so though I love that operetta ( yes, many call it an opera, but it isn't and never was meant to be one ), there's just so much of stupid changes I'm willing to accept. Ergo, I can watch it on T.V. for nothing and IF I hate what they've done to the opera, I'll shut it off, with no loss.
Having grown up with this stuff, from day 1, and knowing some opera greats, whilst I do love the music, etc., I do tend to be rather hide-bound about it; even more So re G&S!
Do you ever watch the Met at the Movies?
They have it pretty much everywhere. Check Fandango. If there is a theater in your area that has it, it will be listed under that date.
It looks like they’re doing several of the classics this coming season.
Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
