Youre not going to like this.
Millennials spend more time on social media than older generations: People ages 25-34 spend 141 minutes per day on it, versus 105 for the 35-44 set. And that could be hurting both their finances and mental health.
Indeed, nearly half of millennials (49%) say that their spending habits have been influenced by the photos and experiences their friends share on social media, compared with only about one-third of Americans in general, according to a data survey of more than 1,000 Americans by financial firm Charles Schwab.
Social media has become the millennials financial Achilles Heel. Allianz Life 2018 survey
Other surveys have uncovered similar trends: Roughly two in three millennials think that social media has a negative impact on their financial well-being, according to a 2018 survey of more than 2,000 millennials from financial firm Fidelity. Data released in 2018 by mobile bank firm Varo Money found that 53% of millennials admit to buying something they saw advertised on social media. And a 2018 survey from Allianz Life shows that more than half of millennials (57%, versus just 28% of Gen Xers and 7% of boomers) say theyve spent money they hadnt planned to because of something they saw on social media.

“And, sadly, they are Godless.”
Correct. And one could observe that they are in fact not only sadly Godless, but quite proudly so.
Had one assert to me a couple of weeks ago that they were neither religious nor atheistic, and that they further were not agnostic. Such a choice, I was informed, presumed a “binary” world paradigm to which they did not ascribe and had transcended. I’m sure they believed they were opening my eyes to a way of thinking I had previously been blind to. Breathtaking, heartbreaking, nauseating adolescent idiocy/ego-mania parading as intellectualism.
What investment rate would you use?
The point is, that it does show the difference between starting to save in your 20s as opposed to waiting.
All of us post pictures on threads of where we are, vacations, what we've bought, where we have been, what we just bought, our new whatever, what we're eating in some posh restaurant, etc.; which IS what "SOCIAL MEDIA" is all about.
Once in a while there's a thread asking what gun someone should buy, with lots of replies and sometimes pictures and there are the RECIPE threads, sometimes with pictures of food but those ujsually are NOT what the poster has made.
Oh sure, there are exceptions, in ALL generations, but over all, what I said is why Millennials get such a drubbing here and in real life.
No one taught them about money and living on an actual budget.
And also avoid social media if you want to have money and keep to your budget.
How many of these people do you know personally?
Between work, family and freinds, probably 20. That is not to say I dont know old school millenials. I know a couple who work for microsoft, have developed personally many of the gadgets you use every day and make 300 kilobucks between them, but their father raised them old school, taught them things like how to fix things, and do their own finances. Others I have taken under my wing and teach them what I can. How to fix their own cars, I tutor from algebra, to advanced calculus, and programing from visual basic basic to python to to sql database design and I rogramming yo plcs, to how to wire their house and car, to even how to design integrated circuits, to their checkbooks, cooking, and gardening. Some of them actually learn, others dont
It is a reflection of what happened after Solomon went back and Israel divided.
We were a wise nation to an extent...but now we are drowning in fools.
The exception is everywhere and the degradation by the fools would really take some fixing.
Some obvious man will say that, hey, its been going on a long time..
I agree and praise God for His mercy in so many ways.
Social media has damaged us but, I being born in 1963, I think Television has done some great damage too.
We have all types of idolatry to occupy us to the negative.
Everything can be abused.
I have spent hours reading on this website when I should have been doing something else.
We combine and bombard ourselves constantly, like Trump, I like to check out the web when Im on the can.
I think thats where he Twitters...while having his morning constitutional.
It isnt what most people, especially Millennials mean by social media! There are very few Millennials on FR! And nobody here posts about what the just bought, pictures of what theyre having for dinner, products that everyone else should buy.
your = you’re - just in case your a freerepublic grammar Nazi.
Definition:
so·cial me·di·a /ˌsōSHəl ˈmēdēə/
noun noun: social media; plural noun:
social media is websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking and discussions.
The fact is, that NOBODY, on this site, could possibly feel "less than"/"imperfect"/depressed about themselves by reading the posts and/or the threads here! OTOH...that IS what this article is saying about "social media" and Millennials!
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts. ― Bertrand Russell
There were fools and fanatics here on FR from the beginning, you obviously escaped that round of bannings, by just lurking and not posting.
I assume that you do know the old saying about not saying something; at least I hope you do.
Getting back to the topic of this thread and NOT everything being all about you, you, YOU......
Okay, since you believe that FR is "social media", then name me three "INFLUENCERS" on FR, what products they have hustled/are hustling, and post links to 6 photos, on any threads ( the TEXAS COWBOY MEMORIAL SHOOT thread does NOT count ! ) showing off where they are/what they're wearing/what fancy restaurants they are at and what they are eating.
And whilst I was no NOT on the FR site, before there actually was FR, I’ve been here since WHITEWATER...though I lurked for almost a year prior to posting...so even though I missed out on the AOL days, I’ve been here posting far longer than you have; n00b! ;^)
Posting longer, yes. Here longer, no. I’ve been here since well before Whitewater. My presence precedes your sign up date by many months.
I would say our longevity here somewhat confirms many of the negative consequence of “Social Media” as discussed in the aforementioned post.
You, not I, need a freerepublic 12 step program my friend ;)
Thanks for sharing!
