SNOPES: The Founding Fathers placed no limits in the U.S. Constitution regarding how many times any one person could be elected (or otherwise serve) as President of the United States. However, in 1947 (after Franklin D. Roosevelt had broken with tradition and the Democrats won five consecutive presidential elections), Congress passed the 22nd amendment, ratified by the requisite number of states in 1951, which created a two-term limit for future Presidents. That amendment (along with earlier constitutional restrictions) would seem to disqualify Barack Obama from ever again attaining the office of President or Vice President of the United States, as he was elected to, and served, two full terms in that office between 2009 and 2017.

However, the wording of the 22nd Amendment doesn’t literally say that no one can be President for more than two terms; only that no one can be elected President more than twice:

Quite a saga. I know what you mean about carrying your sense of humor with you at all times - NOT a concealed carry by any means. Health care is on the decline now; I suppose because of 0bamy Care.

My son is an RN case mgr at a local ER. They keep seeing the same patients again and again with the same (minor) maladies... insist on being admitted... no money of course, most of them. Hospital beds all full -- don't show up with a massive MI because all beds are taken.

I suspect they all think it is now free with the Affordable Care Act. sigh

Well I had no idea about that. I’ve heard it as long as I can remember. Reading a blog about it that says Janet Reno was annoyed by it preferring to be called Ms. Reno.

Moreover, it seems the Supreme Court are wont to call the Solicitor General and the Attorney General ‘general’ but they have the authority to rule on proper usage in their own courtroom, and it was popularized by William Rehnquist, otherwise a stickler for grammar.

One more fun fact: What is the proper form of address for the SURGEON General? Answer: Admiral.
