New York Times Claims Jesus Was ‘Likely a Palestinian’

A New York Times article claiming that Jesus “was most likely a Palestinian man with dark skin” is generating a fierce push-back from the Jewish community.

The executive director of Boston’s Jewish Community Relations Council, Jeremy Burton, tweeted, “Important to point out that no, Jesus did not identify as Palestinian. He was a Judean Jew and for him, the term Palestine was that of the Roman occupier.”

A professor of Jewish history at Yeshiva University, Steven Fine, responded on the Times comments page that “for sure” Jesus “was a youngish Jewish man” who “looked like other Jews of his place and time.”

I’m calling bullsh*t on this.

There is a long and well-documented genealogy concerning the family of Jewish leaders into which Jesus of Nazareth was born. It is all written down, and going back to the time of Abraham, there was only ONE genealogical line of the “Chosen People”. The descendants of Isaac were the foundation of all the Jewish people, while the sons of Ishmael was the foundation of their cousins, the Arabic people.

Look it up.

all year long, but ALWAYS at Easter and Christmas, the mass media run anti-religious stories...without labeling them as such. Usually, its under the guise of some professor’s theory...or quoting a known atheist ...

There is a tremendous difference between discussing and critiquing a religious tenet....honestly...and doing this sort of ‘smear job’..... it is so very much like how the same media treat ANYTHING they disagree with....(including PDJT)...mostly unproven allegations or illogical conclusions....and often with a lot of “emotionally-charged wording”

we don’t read the NYT and we only glance quickly at most of the mass media’s religious articles (to see if one of them happens to be intelligent, worth reading... this happens only about 10 percent of the time)

That's true -- the only true Palestinians are the Jews. The Palestinian Olympic teams from before WWII were made up entirely of Jews.

Jack Hibbs had an amusing line-I think this was in the context of scholars that deny the authorship of the book of Jeremiah-we have people with doctorates and running Youtube channels that a hundred years ago would have been in psychiatric institutions.

How can people with such fancy degrees be so damn ignorant about history, among many other topics?

Most of the time when people like that say such preposterous things its because they are social posturing toward their peer group. Trying to improve their status in other words.

That’s my understanding...the was a “region” called Palestine but it was never a country and didn’t have a discreet population of people.

“No such country as Palestine then or now. I’ve heard preachers today call it Palestine.”

Exaclty. “After World War I, the name Palestine was applied to the territory that was placed under British Mandate; this area included not only present-day Israel but also present-day Jordan.”

If you refer to Joseph as the father of Jesus, yes he was in the line of David, but you would not be speaking of His actual father, which we all know is God, through the Spirit.

Well, at one point there was a Roman province called “Syria Palestine”, but that’s about it. Even that was created after all the major events in the Bible were over with, so you can’t make an argument that they are calling it by the historical name it was associated with at the time.

Correct, He was born in Bethlehem, during the census but raised in Nazareth (“can anything good come from Nazareth”) but began His ministry in Galilee, as He was rejected from Nazareth and His own “knew Him not!”

No such place during and before His birth, though Rome may have so named it to rid themselves of “those Jews!”

I understand the true Father of Jesus, but if you recall, they went to Bethlehem, the City of David, to be taxed when Jesus was born. His earthly lineage was primarily counted through Joseph in the Jewish perspective.

Jesus is a direct descendant of King David on both Joseph and Mary’s sides

.No such country as Palestine then or now.

Correct.

I was petty good at geography and had trouble understanding why I could not place Palestine, so I decided to look up it's Constitution, to find out if it had a President, Premier, Shah, or what kind of a leader it had, and read how it was set up.
I couldn't find out anything about Palestine because it never existed.
It is a fictitious country used to beat Israel over it's head for oppressing non existent Palestinian people. - Tom

Joe 3:4 Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head;

Palestine is a region. The Hebrew word is “Philistia” where we get the Philistines.

Totally!

As I understand, the Jewish faith, is passed from the mother’s side but as to actual lineage, Jesus, though only Son of His Father, was Jewish, both fully man, to understand us, yet fully God to forgive us.
