next week, the wife and I are taking our 10-yr old great niece to Orlando. Yes (sigh), we are spending several days at Disneyworld. Due to someone on the inside, we were able to get great rates for admission and overnight.
One day, we're going to Canaveral National Seashore. Yes, we're gonna avoid the nude beaches. No one should ever see me naked and frankly if some weirdo even looks at my great niece...well, you get the idea.
So what else do Freepers like in the Orlando area? Is Gatorland worth it? Or maybe Discovery Cove? I'm not sure we're gonna have time for SeaWorld or to drive west to Busch Gardens in Tampa.
Would love to go to Kennedy Space Center - but with the reat-nice, I'm gonna have to take a pass on it this time.
Are there places I should avoid? I've heard that certain parts of Orlando are kinda scary.
Are there any good restaurants? Me? I love Bob Evans, Shoney's, Waffle House, etc. The wife and great-niece are pretty flexible too.
I'd appreciate any reasonable suggestions.
first off dont put your self in tons of pain use lots of SUNSCREEN like spf 50 or better , you can cook bad in 3 hrs.
and if you can make it to a beach come to where we live in New Smyrna Beach fl , its only about an hour from orlando.
Super freindly nice place , google breakers restruant flagler av new smyrna beach. that will put you on the ocean. swim by lifeguards all east coast ocean has rip current that will pull you out to sea.If by chance that happens keep calm swim parallel to shore until current is gone and then swim back in. ponce inlet light house tour in just across the river in ponce inlet fl a 5 minute drive , good restruants there at light house too. Beware once you come here you might sell everything and move here.
Youve received tons of advice.....
...my kids grew up going to Disney World.......(lived here many years).....and you will have a great time!.....are you going to Epcot and The Magic Kingdom?
Epcot is my favorite......
....im not a fan of Animal Kingdom.....or really Sea World
Canaveral Shores is nice.......youre so close to KSC
A great place to eat Seafood is in Titusville......Dixie Crossroads, very popular
Gator land is great!
Hope you have a great time
Weve had some beautiful Spring weather.....not too hot yet
Don’t feed the DISNEY RAT!
It hates you, your family, your “traditional American values” and the country.
Go on SOARING in Disney. I recommend it.
DIE-4, aka Highway to Hell.
Stay in the right lane. Keep up with traffic. Use your google maps with voice directions and you should be okay.
Or
Fly in, go to your accommodations and use their shuttles to get around.
I was on I-4 last Thursday. Lots of construction. And it was the tail end of spring break.
You could always skip the mouse in a cheese maze and head over to Cocoa beach and just chill.
The fast pass system is amazing. As soon as you use one, you can sign up, via your phone, for the next one. I was there last year during what was known to be a very busy week but Disney is so well organized that we did not spend much time in lines.
If you’re in Epcot & the kid likes pizza, go to the pizzeria in the back of the Italy pavilion.
If you’re near the Animal Kingdom lodge with the kid, the Boma buffet.
You don’t want to take your great-niece to KSC? You might ask her what she thinks. Lots of kids that age LOVE adventure and outer space. Our daughter did the NASA Space Camp when she was maybe 11 or 12 and loved it. For the longest time, her ambition was to be an astronaut and go to Mars.
A visit to KSC could possibly help her sustain or grow an interest in math and sciences.
Another expert here.
I’m not a fan of Wolfgang Puck. The service can be better.
Disney Springs is a shopping mall. If you’re staying in Saratoga Springs, take the boat over. There is a BBQ place near the Orange Parking Lot entrance you might want to check out.
When possible, use the Mouse’s bus system.
Two more...
If you are at Hollywood Studios & decide on a quick service lunch. Pizza Rizzo’s near the muppets has a quiet second floor that’s air conditioned. They also have a decent antipasto salad.
There a microbrew bar kitty corner from Pizza Rizzo’s near the blocked-off Star Wars entrance area.
Actually that will make you hungry two hours later.
Much better to have a three-egg omelette with broccoli, mushrooms and swiss cheese. Substitute home fries with grilled tomatoes and get a side of bacon.
Now that will keep you from getting hungry for a while and you'll have real nutrition in your belly.
Saratoga is our Home Resort for DVC. We like to have a Disney Springs view.
AS for Wolfgang Puck’s, I am not talking about the big restaurant, but, the Express one near Saratoga. We’ve always had good service there.
It’s time for another trip to WDW soon!
And the gays are generally as pleasant and well-mannered as anyone else.
Id prefer my grandchildren not be forced to watch homosexuals make out.
You can make your own choice.
When isn’t it under reconstruction? They are always working on that road!
If you’re staying on property use the buses, they run very frequently. Well worth to just park your car at the hotel the whole time, at least it was for us.
Ever since my grandmother moved to West Palm when I was kid I learned the word “boulevard” comes from an old Seminole phrase meaning “congested, heavily travelled pathway of many stoplights under perpetual reconstruction”
Crowds now are ten times what they used to be in the 70’s.
Traffic is a bigger nightmare.......................
Mine is the Wilderness Lodge. Which means my points are used at Saratoga.
Be sure to use your points in the Grandstand area. I ended up in the emergency room due to the hot tub in the Paddock area.
We do Congress Park. Got that view!
We’ve stayed at the Wilderness lodge too. It’s great!
Our ultimate goal is to sail our boat to Hawaii (through the Panama Canal and out) and stay at Aulani. By the time we get there, we should be able to stay for a month on points, and, leave the boat at the marina down the street from the resort.
It’s a plan!
