There is debate over that.

Most side on “take the brother’s widow into your home and treat her as family”. Primarily, this means there would be no dowry expectations.

Leverite marrage. Mosaic law. If the widow has no children her brother in law may assist her in producing issue on behalf of the later brother or the widow would have no support in her old age.
