100s of trillions of galaxies each with hundreds of thousands of stars ...
“advanced life” rare no, hiding yes
That would trigger us.
Then they’d have to declare the Earth a ‘safe space’ and give us all emotional support animals and free crayons and coloring books for life.
sure they would for the few seconds before life on earth ceased to exist or the solar system was reduced to a 2 dimensional object. ...
There is earth is a alien reality TV show!
Seriously you think intelligent beings behave this way?
They leave us alone and just watch for the amusement. We are more of a sitcom for them than a zoo.
I rest my case...
9th Circuit would stop em!
I disagree with pretty much every bullet point you listed. China has been a civilization continuously for 5000 years and their borders are essentially unchanged. Not every life form is going to develop technology, as their existence may be based on senses that we do not even possess. The number and composition of atoms on each planet are essentially unchanged. Earth has supported lush life for millions of years, and has yet to have any resource strained yet. The “peak oil” argument continues to be proven wrong with every decade of continuous increase in proven and unproven reserves.
If this is the case, humans should increase their efforts to create messages capable of reaching our “keepers,” to demonstrate our intelligence,

Good idea, but it can only work if Democrats are absolutely prohibited from participating in any way whatsoever!
Isnt the most obvious answer that the speed of light really is a speed limit
................................
I seem to recall reading awhile back that the speed of some sub-atomic particles or whatever have been observed to exceed the speed of light.
“Where is everybody?” —physicist Enrico Fermi (1901-1954) in a conversation related to the idea of extraterrestrial intelligence.
So we’ve got one element — the UFO believers — who think aliens are smart enough to fly here all the way from another solar system, yet stupid enough to blow their cover and reveal their presence to humans.
And then these guys. They think aliens are smart enough to move us all into a giant ant farm without any of us noticing.
Thanks fieldmarshaldj. I very much doubt that there's some kind of interplanetary version of the UN. It's more likely that there are loads of planets to colonize, making conflict an unnecessary risk. And it would not surprise me that there are some species which work as go-betweens, although I wonder if interplanetary trade ever really makes sense, regardless of their tranportation systems. Now, back in with the usual template:
"But I am not really willing to accept your premise, because it may well be that the means of communications they have are of a kind that we do not know how to receive, and that they would not have the means of communicating with sufficiently powerful radio or optical signals. That is something which, technologically, is too difficult for them but they would have some other means we would not recognize." -- Thomas J. Gold, 'Communication with Extraterrestial Intelligence' (Sagan, ed)
"To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow." -- Metrodorus, 4th c BC Greek philosopher
"Heaven and earth are large, yet in the whole of space they are but as a small grain of rice. How unreasonable it would be to suppose that, besides the heaven and earth which we can see, there are no other heavens and no other earths." -- Teng Mu, 13th c AD Chinese philosopher
Yep.
That is one reason why I am fine with searching for life but not trying to signal anyone.
It might prove to be as smart as a swimmer signaling a great white by bleeding.
Disagreement does not negate the logic axioms posited. Grasping the Dark Forest Theory of Cosmic Civilizations is outside the usual way of thinking about civilizations. The Fermi Paradox is simple as is the Dark Forest Theory, once it is understood that, most if not all, human wars are about competition for access or possession of resources - from raw materials to living space.
We are dealing in this thread with cosmic civilizations: those with space ships or some means of efficiently leaving their home solar system; which in turn means growth and need for vast resources to maintain that growth. Competition becomes an overriding factor. Other cosmic civilizations are potential competitors.
Using local examples like China is are poor indicators, and cannot be compared. BTW, China now is on the move and wants to dominated the world - what China did in the past is no indicator of what China will do in the future.
And yes, any life form which has a cosmic civilization will have some form of technology even if we do not recognize it as such.
Cosmic civilization by definition would have a resource problem at some point - one needs to consider that access to resources not needed in the present does not negate a future need.
The current human western civilization basically began after 1500AD with the lifting of the Dark Ages and the retreat of the muslims from Europe whose civilization they had destroyed. Therefore, world resource usage is a recent phenomenon, and what the demands will be a 100 or 1000 years from now cannot be calculated, were the present civilization to mature into a cosmic one, but that demand will go up exponentially or even logarithmically.
only if AOC proves inadequate to the task ... she now controls the Senate as well as the House so be warned.
Posted some pics from a Lost In Space episode from the 1960s, titled "A Day At the Zoo", where members of the Robinson Family were captured by an alien for his space zoo.
In order to save his own butt, the 'good' Dr Smith ultimately makes a deal with the aliens, then helps out by selling tickets for the zoo.
Perhaps the original pics were too large?
You know, if AOC was queen of the reptiloids, that would explain a lot.

If?
