Just for info. insurance adjusters put value on even the tires on a vehicle when they write the pay off assessment. I went through this recently from Hurricane Harvey. I had a friend who wanted my tires and wheels before the wrecker came and hauled off my newish truck. I was advised not to let that happen because it would lower the insurance buy back.
I’m restoring some classic cars. Head to craigslist. Under auto parts there is a heading for wheels and tires. Used stuff ends up there as well as llanteria cheapies.
Try Craigslist first. Maybe a 10% chance of finding what you need, but it will take only 15 minutes.
Also, a 5x114.3 lug
means a 4.5 inch bolt pattern, common to Ford and Dodge. GM uses 4.75 inch. So don’t pull rims off a Chevy.
W.Va. they’re all over the place.
Live near a Mexican neighborhood? Usually used tire stores there. And the ‘Rent a Wheel’ places probably have some standard wheels that they have taken in when the hip hop crowd has upgraded to spinners and gold rims.
Or ask your son what he did with the old ones when he got his fancy ones. Other folks have probably done the same, and follow the trail until you find the place that ends up retailing them.
It’s a crapshoot. I wanted a full sized spare for my new van and found a plain jane steel rim that would fit at a you-wrench-it place. It had a crap tire on it which they “threw in”. Price was under 8 bucks. Took it to walmart for the cheapest tire (after all, I hope never to actually use it, or not for very long).
Smart idea. Really good idea.
Even the crap tire that was on the rim is likely better than the 50 mile donut.
Excellent idea. Thank you!
In my day, we’d just drive around looking for a column of thick black smoke...
craigslist has a section for tires and wheels ...
Every city in the southwest has a ‘little tijuana’ where such things can be had. It’s one of the pluses of latin culture. Get a smothered burrito from a roach coach while waiting.
Junk yard would have many....
Look for Obama stickers....
Since you live in Maine there should be local junk yards nearby where you’ll be able to get what you need
Check Craigslist in your local area.
Yep, junkyards are the best bet.
Being 1/2 Hispanic, I learned my way around a wrecking yard at an early age. Find a local wrecking yard and start there.
thanks, I will try them if there is time...
