Just broke on Twitter, Chicago PD Anthony Guglielmi announced Smollett was in custody as of around 5:30 am CST. Watch for a press conference at 9:00 am followed by first court appearance.
Let the coverup begin!
The media will now launch the largest and most massive coverup in history.
They will blast this story from the public consciousness by a massive onslaught of fake news on a thousand other subjects.

Last night they had a guy from Chicago talking about how nobody pays attention to the real crimes committed in the city (that kill people); Mark Fuhrman then talked about how over a dozen detectives were assigned to this hoax instead of dealing with those serious crimes.
I don’t see this unassimilated deviant walking away from this unscathed.
Did he warrant a heavily armed 21 man SWAT team with armored amphibious vehicles?

Since this little fiasco got started there have been over 200 shootings and over 50 murders in the City of Chicago, almost none of them have been solved. This clown Smollet wasted thousands of hours of police work and likely over $1,000,000 in resources.
Trust me, the Chicago PD is not amused. Look for the Cook County Prosecutor to drop a hammer on him and demand some prison time. Then there’s the small matter of the US Postal Service wanting their pound of flesh.
His little stunt with the US Mail is a very, very serious matter. Once Cook County is done with him the Postal Service, which has its own Enforcement powers including arrests, is gonna come down on him like a ton of bricks.
Smollet is done. Stick a fork in him. His career is over. He won’t be showing up on that stupid TV show for quite some time.

Smollet did something here that’s not illegal but will draw serious blowback just the same. He embarrassed the Powers That Be. All those folks who jumped on the bandwagon now have egg on their faces including the Mayor.
