Fort Collins, Colo. -- A man is recovering after he fought off and killed a mountain lion that attacked him during a trail run in northern Colorado... the man was running alone when he was attacked from behind Monday afternoon at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, a mountain park some 66 miles northwest of Denver, near Fort Collins.
The runner, whose name has not been released, fought off the cougar, hiked out of the area and drove himself to a hospital.
He suffered facial cuts, wrist injuries and puncture wounds to his arms, legs and back. The bites were severe...
Wildlife officers searching the trail found the juvenile mountain lion's body near several of the runner's possessions. It will be taken to a lab for a necropsy...
Authorities didn't immediately say how the runner killed the animal.
...
Since 1990, there have been 16 wounds as a result of mountain lion attacks, and three fatalities in Colorado, CBS Denver adds. The last such attack in the state was reported in June 2016.

Mark Stanford and his wife.. "I looked up and saw a set of eyes staring back at me,"
"I could see that it was a big cat,"..
Mark Stanford was carrying a firearm, and he shot off a round to try and scare the animal. It ran off and the couple started hiking again before discovering the animal again on the trail.
They felt like they were being hunted.

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Kitty ping?
I certainly won’t be surprised if this runner is charged with a crime.
So when is he going to be jailed for violating the Endangered Species Act?
I thought they hibernated in the winter?
The runners I mean.
“They felt like they were being hunted.”
They were being hunted.
Out in nature, away from cities, humans are just one more part of the food chain, not the top of the chain.
Many people do not realize how remote many areas in Colorado are. The state has about 3.5 million people, most of who are concentrated in the greater Denver metroplex. There are areas where the next living human being can be 30 to 40 miles away.
Having said that, running in the wild can be an enjoyable exercise. However, you should run with some equipment. A water bottle, small first aid kit, whistle or other signal device, fire starter, knife, emergency blanket ..... and a firearm. Put it in a backpack or fanny pack.
This guy was lucky. There are bigger things than mountain lions in the hinder parts of Colorado.
“Kitty ping?”
More like Hungry Kitty ping.
He shouldnt have been wearing that deer costume while he was out running.
Sure....its stylish and shows off his toned legs, but it confuses the forest critters.
Take my hat off to this fellow.
I used to run a lot in Colorado and I was never attacked by a mountain lion.
Of course I was in an Armored Personnel Carrier, but still.
Killed it how? Details lacking....
“Many people do not realize how remote many areas in Colorado are”. As in most western states. That’s why a lot of us like it out here. ;-) Sadly, we (in NV anyway) fall under the wishes and desires of vegas/Clark/Reno/Washoe counties so, what was once a fairly conservative state is now in the hands of demolibs. But areas that are desolate and far from civilization that don’t care who’s in control of the politics. You betcha. But, you can find desolate areas in just about every state.
5-year-old attacked by mountain lion, mother saves him... ( June 18, 2016 ).
The attack happened in the family’s ( Fenced in ) yard at their home near Lower River Road in the community of Lower Woody Creek about 10 miles northwest of Aspen.
The boy suffered injuries to his head, neck and face,
the boy and his older brother were outside their home playing in the ( Fenced in ) yard. The boys’ mother was inside the home and heard her son start screaming.
The mother ran outside and saw the mountain lion on top of her child. She then fought off the lion and pulled her son out of its grip.
The boy was brought to Children’s Hospital via helicopter in fair condition.
From you, that’s high praise!
Do you mean grizzlies? Or are you implying Sasquatch or red-headed nephilim?
Yeah, they will charge him for something especially since they’ve yet to say how he killed the cat.
100% bad-ass..!!!
Just WOW.
At least bring a combat knife or small gun when running and hiking in such wild areas. Don’t depend on battling it out unarmed with a mountain lion. They might weigh less than a human but they are built out of muscle and sinew and have claws.
“Adult male mountain lions usually weigh between 110 and 180 pounds, while females typically weigh between 80 and 130 pounds.”
