I long ago also read the Nicholson book as well as one by his son and several others about them, that era, and others of importance at that time. And I see that we also share quite a few other topics we enjoy reading about as well. So if you’d be so kind, I would appreciate knowing the title of the new Johnson book; please. And in trade, I’ll give you the titles of some Knights Templar history books , if you’d like.

I don’t bother. Not much else is new. Read enough in the last 50 years.

Disgusted with politics, I’m binge-watching PBS series “The House of Elliot” on DVDs from the library.. Takes place in late 19th, early 20th centuries in London. Two lovely sisters dumped on by their dad and the status quo discover they are broke when he dies, go out in the world on their own and start a fashion design business.

They don’t wear pussy hats, don’t blame men, don’t marching the streets, don’t feel sorry for themselves more than 4 minutes a day—just go out in the world and make it work.

Also, I discovered Peter Robinson, prolific Brit mystery writer whose hero, Detective Banks, solves murders in Yorkshire. Very low tech.

Hate football, looking forward to watching PGA golf, coming soon on Saturday afternoon TV.

It is Samuel Johnson, The Struggle by Jeffery Meyers.

LOL, am somewhat saturated on Crusades and Middle Ages right now, I don't think I can tackle anything more on the Templars. I just picked it up when it came out last year as I read all of Dan Jones as it comes out -- never disappointed. Just did God's Wolf, Reynald de Châtillon by Jeffery Lee -- it kept me tied up this summer in that category as well.

Can you imagine sitting with Johnson and Edmund Burke til dawn in an 18th century tavern as they tried to avoid politics?

1. The Red Cliffs of Zerhoun by Matthew Bracken - Highly Recommend to all.

2. The Hill Fights - The First Battle of Khe Sanh by Edward F. Murphy. Shocking, frustrating, even depressing. The Marines fought as bravely as they have in every war, but the people in charge were almost criminally incompetent. Highly recommended, but fasten your seat belt before you start reading.

Oh, I should add, if you liked the Nicholson era at the end of Chamberlin’s tenure, you should pick up Troublesome Young Men, by Lynne Olsen. She has written a half dozen fantastic books and despite her liberalism, I have enjoyed each although there is one I have yet to finish and one I have yet to buy.

EDUCATED: A MEMOIR, by Tara Westover.

Interesting how she managed to survive a kooky father. Although a lapsed Mormon, she avoids denigrating her former denomination; instead, focuses on her extremely sheltered childhood with a “prepper” family.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything beside Scripture, but the most recent non-scriptural books were :

The Terror Conspiracy by Jim Marrs

The Manchurian President by Aaron Klein

The Teutonic Knights: A Military History by William Urban

Just finished The Clockmakers Daughter by Kate Morton (pretty good if you don’t mind the paranormal element) and before that Aphordite’s Whisper by William Charles Furney (fantastic Legends of the Fall type love story.

Re-reading 1984 now.

Ahhh...... Horatio Hornblower.

I guess introducing TV on a book thread is heresy but...... there are three years worth of Horatio Hornblower adventures on You Tube. They are just great fun.

Here’s one season 3 episode 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5STvCVCBo

If you do watch them, get them in order Season 1, episode 1

On you tube search, look for Horatio Hornblower
