Chicago police are reporting gunpoint robberies targeting people wearing pricey Canada Goose jackets as temperatures plunge in the city.
Over the past two weeks, police say there's been a spate of the thefts in which people wearing the luxury coats have been targeted and forced to give up the jackets. The coats can cost upward of $1,000 and are often seen on celebrities.
Six people had their Canada Goose coats stolen last week and two more were targeted Wednesday.
Police say two men jumped from a Mercedes, showed a gun and punched a 54-year-old man before forcibly taking his coat and wallet Wednesday. The same night, two men showed a gun to a 23-year-old man walking with a friend and demanded his Canada Goose coat.

Its the life-cycle of many brands. Niche, functional, “blue collar” gear catches fire among urban trendies.
Canada Goose started in the 1950s as a company making weather-protection gear for Canadian police, forestry people, coast guard etc.... Highly functional and high quality gear for places its REALLY cold.
As I understand it, they got a CEO 15 years ago who smartly thought - why not take our high quality product and turn it into a premium brand? It worked out for them.
Supply and demand.
Weird isn't it? And many of them aren't even down filled....LOL!
Wear them in Canada and you get goosed?
And the person who said they never saw a $XXXX figure winter jacket? Well, there is this, and it is tested for -40*.
I admit I'll never need something this industrial but for those who do mountaineer? It's a good one. (It's also good for finding and identifying when you collapse and perish at 27000ft elevation and higher.)
Redistribution of warmth.
Canada Goose jackets are the equivalent of spinner wheels for Chicagoans to wear on their bodies?
What’s a conservative? A liberal who’s been mugged.
It’s a name brand.
A few ounces of C4 with a time delay fuse embedded in the fill should take care of the problem nicely...
Carhartt is what I wear
If you’re going to steal a car to use in robberies, you might as well steal a good one
I went to the store a while back, and a youngish woman was walking quickly to a waiting silver Mercedes, followed closely by the loss prevention folks from the store. I asked about it when I checked out. She’d shoplifted a mango.
Undercover cops wearing these coats in sting operations could probably get lots of criminals in Chicago off the streets. Got to keep the muggers locked up once you arrest them, though.
Not one blond in the entire catalog.
Sounds like a flock of them got stolen.
These Canada goose jackets have fake fur around the hood. This blings them out, thus making them irresistible to a certain segment of the Chicago population.
Carhartt is what I wear
They are projecting a new record cold for DuPage -26 or worse.
I have lots of cold weather gear from my climbing days and also a very nice Carhartt parka, a gift from my employer with his and my name embroidered on it.
I’m going with Carhartt, it weighs a ton compared to the puffer, but with it on I do not know anything about the weather outside.
Like wearing a heated house and almost as stiff.
I think my wife will go with the puffer.
Easy to see why they’re being stolen, with the Polar Vortex coming to Shitcago.
Well, nobody tries to rob me for my denim sheepskin, that’s for sure.
