Have the Trees started to split in the cold?
I remember!
You go outside and there is snow, and you see your breath, and everything is cold and still in the forest. The sun shines on the snow and you see hundreds of little diamonds of light reflecting off the thick snow! Then all of a sudden in the silence you would hear a snap or a pop like a rifle shot as the ice inside the tree shatters the wood and bark! Its an odd and otherworldly thing.
Then, its cold. So you go back inside. You are glad for a good furnace and a pitched roof. You have a beer and go watch the Bears and Packers and hope the car starts in the morning.
Tonight and tomorrow are going to be just BRUTAL; the coldest we’ve had since 1996! We HAD to travel today; I was never so glad to be back home!
Right now it’s -11 with awful winds out of the west, wind chill is at -41! Eeek! The d@mn Beagle went out - and wouldn’t come back in, the dumb@ss, LOL! (He’s in now and is OK; frosty paws and face. He was out for over 15 minutes, which is enough to hurt you!)
My indoor/outdoor cats are crawling the walls and trying to KILL each other.
Barn chores have been BRUTAL - and we only have hunting dogs and a mule, LOL! (Dogs are out of the wind and each have a Doggy Condo filled with straw; the mule is in the barn.) Our Dairy Neighbors are in for a ‘fun’ few days. :(
And then? Nearly 40 degrees by the weekend! That’s, ‘Snowshoeing in Shorts’ weather! ;)
Grew up in WI. I remember a winter day, a still winter day, when little rods of ice started falling. You could hear the tinkle of the rods hitting the ice. Very weird and a very beautiful sound.

The old Willy’s pick-up has an electric block heater plugged in. It sits outside, but the snow plow has priority.
