After dramatic overtime wins, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are headed to their ninth (!) Super Bowl together, to face off against young Jared Goff and Sean McVay. But the talk today is all about an obvious, game-deciding blown call, and what the NFL must do to address an officiating crisis.
====================================================================
The story this morning should be, would be, Rams coach Sean McVay taking a franchise that had missed the postseason 12 consecutive times to the Super Bowl in just his second year, and going right through the raucous Superdome to do it. The story this morning should be, would be, Patriots quarterback Tom Bradys incomparable brilliance in the face of a worthy young challenger at Arrowhead.
But thats not where we are on this Monday morning.
As has been the case, to a lesser degree, on other Monday mornings this year, you woke up today to more talk about a bad call in a football game. And you should. Because what happened in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday was as bad as it gets, the NFLs worst nightmare come alive after a year in which the officials were criticized constantly. A terrible officiating failure cost a team a trip to the Super Bowl.
Thats no exaggeration either. There was 1:48 showing when Saints quarterback Drew Brees feathered the ball down the right sideline to Tommylee Lewis, who looked back for it, only to take a crushing head shot from Rams corner Nickell Robey-Coleman, who was on time for the hit like the Giants used to be on time for Tom Coughlins meetings: about five minutes early.

The NFL knew there was little enthusiasm for the Rams in the LA Market, and getting them to the SB was a way to try to fix that.
Karma is a bitch. Dirtiest team in the league falls to the REAL Americas Team Gotta love it
What has always made me angry is why in the hell the NFL cant do like Baseball and have their refs trained and paid like professional refs.
If it were not for Umpires in baseball, the game wouldnt be fun to watch.
The Rams aren’t even LA’s team. The Raiders are still far more popular in LA.
There should be a way for a coach to call ( throw a flag ) a penalty and it would cost them a time out if wrong. The coaches get three flags per game ) Maybe that would work.
I still enjoy the Green White Checkered
Pats won on account of a coin flip.
Drew Brees did not have to throw an interception in overtime either. Brees had a subpar game. His throwing was horrible. He does not have the arm strength anymore.
FYI, I am a PATS fan. I was hoping for a Pats/Saints Superbowl.
You mean the Chiefs didn't put their defense on the field?
Nope you cannot review a penalty. Catch, no catch, fumble or no, in bounds etc, that is it. Penalties are judgement calls.
In the off season they need to do something w/ a public announcement about what their plan is address bad calls.
There have been many rumblings about how bad this problem is, then on the big stage we see just how bad it is
Whatever the NFL does, it had better work. Integrity of the game is at stake
Do the Chiefs have a defense?
Well, now you’re getting to the other reason I’m pretty much done with the NFL. Good defense has gone the way of the Dodo Bird, of course that’s been the goal of the NFL to get more females to watch the games.
The ONLY THING the National Felon League cares about is taking your money while they belittle, demean, denigrate and spit on you, your beloved country and everything that we hold dear.
Who cares if the New England Turncoats are in the National Felon League Super Toilet Bowl... THEY HATE US and it's just a game that has absolutely ZERO RELEVANCE.
Sadly, the players ALSO think it is real.
What was the line in Vegas and what was the total $$ play?
THAT’s how the game is decided.
Super Bowl 48 showed us that.
Not legitmate.
I have zero interest in this.
I team I dislike that has won many times in the last 18 years, vs. a transplant to LA I could not care less about.
BORING!
Tell you what. If I were a ref on that field and I caught the head coach of either team with a whistle in their beak, I would call them (un-sportsman like )every time they had that thing in their mouth.
15 yards EVERY single time.
If there is no call they can’t review it. The problem is the call was missed. Millions of fans made the call ,why couldn’t the ref’s make it? They are gonna have to really cheat if they want the Rams to win.
Real america’s team??? omg put the crack pipe down, after the way they left StL i cannot stand the rams, hopefully they never win a game,
