If I wrote the screenplay, the first scene would be the original busters on a mission; Peter, Ray, and Egon (Egon as a body double/CGI).

Egon would die in spooktacular fashion.

The second scene would be Egons' funeral.

The rest of the story would revolve around revenge for Egon.

Actually the reboot made a lot of money. One of the top grossing comedies of the year. Problem is they thought it was going to anchor a new Cinematic Universe and spent Marvel Money on it, thus dooming it to have no hope of profitability. If they’d spent wisely it would already have a sequel coming out.
