The suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Jayme Closs and the murder of her parents in the family's Barron County, Wisconsin residence on Oct. 15 reportedly told authorities he decided to abduct her after seeing her boarding a school bus.
That's according to the criminal complaint filed against 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson Monday. He was due to make his first court appearance later Monday afternoon.
The complaint lists two counts of first-degree homicide, one count of kidnapping and one count of armed burglary.
Patterson was arrested Thursday in Gordon, Wisconsin - shortly after authorities say Jayme was able to escape from a home at which she was being held when Patterson was out.
She approached a woman who was walking her dog for help. That woman took Jayme to a neighbor's residence where they called 911. A description Jayme provided led to Patterson's arrest a short time later.
Jayme's parents James and Denise were found dead at their Barron County residence on Oct. 15, and Jayme had not been seen since.
According to the complaint, Patterson confessed to killing James and Denise and kidnapping Jayme. He allegedly told authorities he worked at a cheese factory south of Almena - which is also in Barron County - for two days before quitting. On his drive to the cheese factory on one of his two mornings there, he had stopped behind a school bus on Highway 7 and said he watched Jayme get on.

Ping.
I’m still not buying this.
Why?
Hang the f*cker
It’s all too thin and nebulous.
I hope the young girl is not involved in some way, but I have this feeling.....
I've thought there is more to the story than what has come out so far.
He’s got a history of strange things someplace. School kids are very observant. Go back to his high school.
You appear to have a criminal mind.
And I’m not buying that you don’t.
You posted your comment so quickly, that there was no way that you had read the entire article.
Hopefully theyll pass him around like cigarettes in prison.
If he wanted to kidnap Jayme so badly, he could have easily snatched her when she got off the bus..going to her home and murdering her parents just to get her seems like too much of a hassle on his part. The area from what I can see is VERY rural, he could have easily when she was walking home from school, grabbed her and no one would have known a thing
Thank God this guy, like most criminals, is stupid. It could have been much worse and much more prolonged for this poor girl.
At least she has family and community around her.
She wasn’t involved in the least. He simply fixated on her and decided to take her. The parents were in the way so he eliminated them. He had no previous contact with the family or with the girl.
Details revealed so far: He shot the father at the front door, then kicked down the bathroom door where the poor girl and her mother were huddled. He shot the mother in the head then took the girl. After 88 days she managed to escape.
I completely agree.
“Im still not buying this.”
Do you not think he killed the girl’s parents?
Do you not believe that he kidnapped Jayme?
What part do you not believe?
The mistake in your reasoning is that you think the kind of mentally ill brainless Dick head who commits this kind of act applies logic and reasoning to their actions. The criminal act itself of abducting a little girl is insane and the work of a moronic creep. Talk to anyone who defends or prosecutes criminals and you will quickly learn that they defy logic.
No, I hope the citizens of this country do the correct thing and execute this man when he is convicted.
and not be pussies and sit around hoping that some animals will do it for them.
Background checks and waiting period for school busses?
