Love the cars but I think “barn find” is stretching it. This is just a collector that leaves his vehicles sitting under cover without really doing anything to them. A real “barn find” would be one that someone parked and then forgot about and it turns up later after the relatives bury him. Cool video but I think like most reality TV it’s staged and scripted.

In May of 1991, in Charlevoix Michigan, Ipurchased a group of cars that included a barn-find 1970 Plymouth GTX, originally equipped with a 440 Six-Barrel, Four-Speed, Air-Grabber Hood, Trac Pak, in Hemi Orange, with a White interior, and a Black vinyl top. The other cars that I had to buy to get the GTX included a ‘70 forest green GTX parts car with a Air-Grabber hood, a 1972 340 B-5 blue Cuda coupe, and a 1970 383 Charger SE. Iiterally had to remove a huge pile of various pieces of lumber off the GTX so Icould air-up the tires, which miraculously held air, to drag the car into the daylight which it hadn’t seen for over twenty years. The GTX came with a New Old Stock left fender, NOS side marker lights, and a NOS hood-mounted turn signal indicator. What a car that I ultimately sold years later, recovering my spent money.

Once I went on a barn find expedition and found a barn with a complete other barn inside of it. When I looked in that barn, there was a barn in there, etc. etc.

Needless to say the farm was owned by a Russian couple.

I had a Dan Gurney Comet for a short time. Guess you could call it a field find. Pretty much a rust bucket and I bought a Torino to go along with it for rust repair panels. Got em both for $300 and sold them for $2000 because we ended up moving and I couldn’t take them with me. Don’t know if the buyer ever fixed up the Comet but if he did, that would have put the value at around $30k.

My brother in law has a 65 Mustang covered in his mom’s barn. He probably hasn’t even looked at it for 25 years. Sad.

1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H barn find

This particular car seems to be in a bit of disrepair, but if brought to good condition the Hertz Mustang is worth around $143,000, according to Hagerty.

These are rare cars, too — somewhere around 1,000 were built, and who knows how many still exist today. Ford has made a bunch of throwback versions throughout the years, but the original GT350H is what we all yearn for. The Shelby-built 289 cubic-inch V8 made 306 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque back in 1966. Those were some rocking numbers for that era.

Some parts are missing, damaged or just plain wrong on this example, so there's definitely a bit of work to do. The owner seems to have gotten into a wreck many years ago, then got partway through fixing it before it sat in neglect for who knows how long. Regardless, we surmise someone will happily restore it now, and either enjoy themselves a piece of history, or sell for a nice little profit. It's hard not to like the black and gold color scheme on these classic Mustangs. Ford's most recent GT350H look-a-like isn't a rental, but rather a 2019 Shelby GT-H car with 480 horsepower. You can get it in the same black and gold color scheme as this original Hertz car, too.
