In Tuesdays episode of social justice gone awry, Harvard Business Review complained about the lack of diversity in the firefighting business.
U.S. firefighters are overwhelmingly white and male. Heres why that needs to change, the publication said in a Tweet linking a to story.
Harvard Business Review is complaining that only white men are interested in risking life and limb in service to their community. Of course, they did not frame their story that way because, as we know, white men are the devil in this culture war.
Many fire departments recognize that their lack of diversity as a problem and say theyre committed to increasing racial and gender diversity, the article said. But whats the actual path for departments achieving more diversity? And if they do so, will their members embrace how it improves their organization?

What a bunch of a$$ hats at the HBR! Have any one of them EVER fought a forest fire? Its likely the most physically exhausting work any human can do, worse than being in combat by times.
And now they make a racial issue out of it?
I don’t care at all about the skin color of a forest fire fighter. If anyone is a dedicated forest fire fighter, they are in the super human category, regardless whether they are black , white, yellow, red, brown or effing purple.
I suspect that the majority of firefighters are white simply because anyone who is from an urban demographic like the majority of black folks are, likely wouldn’t be able to do the work, or have the woodland experience necessary to even attempt to do the work itself. Its not a “racist” issue.
Re “Every single day they find a new reason to be outraged”.
I thought it was every hour. My bad.
Re Harvard. Take any “REVIEW” they publish with a grain of salt and cyanide (Remember, Obama was the head of the Harvard Law Review and it hasn’t been the same since).
I’ve seen a lot of black Firemen and Fire Chiefs, esp. in the DC/Md area. Good people. Skin color doesn’t matter to a fire but don’t tell the fools at Harvard that.
In fact, most people in fires in DC/PG County, Md and Baltimore are black, and I can assure you that they don’t give a damn the color of who is rescuing them. And in the end, they just plain thank them for doing a great job at great risk to themselves.
The biggest bunch of racists are those in the protected Ivory Towers - now that’s racist - of the Ivy League and its imitators. I just don’t recall any blacks or Asians being the heads of Harvard, MIT, Yale, Un. of Pa, Vassar, Brown (now that’s a racist name), etc.
When UCLA, I believe it was Berkeley, had an Asian head, Hayakawa (?), they had shit fits for months. He was the only major college head to take on the Marxist/anarchist rioters and make them look stupid. He cut the wires to their microphone during one obnoxious protest and the speaker ended up speaking to about 10 people who could hear him with the rest wondering what happened. Great photos of him doing that.
The next time Harvard has a fire, I want them to only admit on campus non-white firemen. After all, they want diversity, let them have diversity, while the rest of stand around chanting, “Burn, Shithole, Burn”.
who authored this “study”? Names and titles, please.
They could always do what the courts ordered Chicago to do. Hire, and promote, black and latino firemen ahead of whites. Then hire more whites to do the actual job of firefighting.
At fires, Chiefs and Captains turn over command to Lieutenants because Chiefs and Captains have no idea how to fight a fire.
Not much chance 0bama would ever do anything that even resembles work. :)
I believe this is where they got their information. https://www.nfpa.org/-/media/Files/News-and-Research/Fire-statistics-and-reports/Emergency-responders/osfdprofile.pdf
BTTT.
Good post 7. I just lived thru one. The entire mountain I live on burned up. I was given 1 minute to get out by the sheriff that came up to alert me, the fire was moving that fast. The fire fighters stayed up here overnight keeping my home soaked while the fire raged all around them for hours and hours!! Balls the size of beach balls on these guys!! I was evacuated 7 days. Then when I returned, the ‘hot spot’ crews were up here for 2 weeks straight, 12 hours a day, putting out flare ups, digging up stumps, soaking hot spots etc. etc. They were a crew of about 14 Mexicans and one white guy and they worked their tales off. I couldn’t do their job in a million years. I’m still having nightmares about what I saw but thank God for all of those MEN.
How many women are fighting to become “Sanitation Engineers?”
My son was a captain in a USFS HeliTack squad for 18 years. The reason it is a white man’s game has to do with many factors but mostly it has to do with educational factors. With the exception of seasonal wildland fire fighters, Forest Service requires employees to pass fire school, the equivalent of an AA degree.
I believe that all of the firefighters killed on 9-11 were fireMEN. They wont build a memorial that doesnt depict women firefighters. That wouldnt be fair.
“At fires, Chiefs and Captains turn over command to Lieutenants because Chiefs and Captains have no idea how to fight a
fire”
Most chiefs and captains I know worked
their way up thru the ranks, with many
years to benefit their positions. Their
experience allows them to assess level
of threat, and to dispatch required
equipment and personnel.
If the departments are fair and equal regarding qualification for hiring and deployment (or in the case of volunteers for membership), I fail to see why "diversity"(whatever that is) is of any consideration whatsoever regarding function in the occupational specialty as defined.
hbr didn’t exactly say that. some academic said that, and was unfortunately cleared for publication by some editor who was having a bad day. hbr is a fine periodical. there is significant grousing in the comments section about how worthy (or not) that ridiculous article was for publication.
I didn't renew because of an article from the gub'mint side (what Bill O'Reilly's "vaunted Harvard degree" is really in, an MPA) on how munis can figure out a formula for screwing, er, taxing businesses just one straw short of the taxed deciding they'd had enough and relocating out of the jurisdiction.
The author framed it as a "win-win".
Yeah, right.
You really shouldn’t have been living there in the first place. How dare you put our men in danger for your safety.
Maybe it is because those other than white males don’t want to do the job?
The “problems” that leftists cook up in their minds, I swear.
