I remember when I was raising 4 little darlings and we had land lines and I used to use HOLD cough drops, so one day I pried the top off of the holder and glued the piece to the ‘hang up’ button on the phone (which said HOLD) took the darlings a while to catch on to that one...hubby worked for A.T.& T. and he didn’t think it was a bit funny...
Quite possible. Contact had belladonna alkaloids actually, which included atropine, a heart stimulant used in cardiac arrest (in higher concentrations), scopolamine, used as a truth serum in WWII (in higher concentrations), and hyoscyamine, a general calmative also used in pain relief (in higher concentrations).
The general intention was to act as an anticholinergic agent - a drying agent in such small quantities... perfect for a cold!
Contact worked great! 😢 Thank you lawyers for liability threats that forced it off of the market.
My mom used to make a “killer” cough syrup. Ingredients were whiskey, rock candy, lemon juice. I don’t remember the proportions. LOL
