Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer shared photos of his guided hunting trip in Africa with friends and colleagues when he returned last month, expecting theyd appreciate his success.
Instead, several former Fish and Game commissioners are pushing for his resignation with a photo of a family of baboons that Fischer shot with a recurve bow prompting most of the outrage.
Fred Trevey, who was a Fish and Game commissioner from 2007 to 2015, wrote Fischer an email asking him to resign to shield the commission as an institution and hunting as a legitimate tool of wildlife management from the harm that is sure to come.
Im sure what you did was legal, however, legal does not make it right, Trevey wrote in the email obtained by the Idaho Statesman through a public records request filed with the governors office. ... Sportsmanlike behavior is the center pin to maintaining hunting as a socially acceptable activity.
Former commissioner Tony McDermott (2005-13) emailed a member of Gov. Butch Otters staff to say he and six other named former commissioners agree with Fred Treveys approach to this potentially explosive issue. Three of the eight former commissioners, including Trevey, were on Fischers email distribution list.
Of the six people named by McDermott, one told the Statesman he emailed Fischer to suggest he resign, one said a public apology would suffice, two said they hadnt consented to having their names attached to McDermotts email and two couldnt be reached. McDermott didnt respond to an interview request; hes out hunting, Trevey said.
Keith Stonebraker of Lewiston, who was a commissioner from 1976 to 1987, said a public apology would satisfy him.
They killed a whole family, including small baboons, and I think thats revolting, ... It just puts a bad light on us.

Is it or is it not illegal what he did on his vacation.
Not seeing a problem here. The hunt was legal, in accordance with game laws, and baboons are pests in Africa.
Perfectly legal.
Becareful what you share.
REMEMBER THE THREE S’s.
Years ago I saw Ted Nugent doing a interview and he was asked about his recent trip to Africa and his baboon hunt while there. He said that baboons are nasty and are like the Bloods and Crips of Africa and had no problem killing them.
The tolerant left in action.
99 Dead Baboons
Another fake outrage about someone doing a wholly legal thing? Reminds me of that dentist from a couple of years ago killing some “famous” lion whose Wikipedia page wasn’t even created until after its death.
When you are a public official, before you allow any picture to be taken of you, ask yourself “What will my political opponents do with this?”
A troop of baboons can destroy the entire fruit or nut crop overnight.
What they do not eat they poop on.
And what they do to a tea or coffee plantation has to be seen to be believed.
They also will attack and kill humans.
The only thing that I think the F&G guy did wrong was show pictures to a bunch of people who are excessively sensitive. He should have known that it would be controversial and could create problems for his employer.
Baboons are overpopulated pests....just like rabbits are here! Its a win win for the country...they get an exorbitant about for the hunt and get rid of pests!!!
“Troop” a group of baboons is a “troop”. Using the word family is an anthropomorphism.
Reminds me of the song “99 bottles of beer on the wall”
99 Baboons did fall
99 dead Baboons
If one of those Baboons happens to get up
98 dead Baboons did fall
etc etc etc
“Is it or is it not illegal what he did on his vacation.”
Throughout the world there are myriad activities that are legal.
But immoral.
God gave us the animals to name, and to be husbanded by us responsibly. Yes, we can use them if we need them.
But there is no justification for sport hunting primates and most other sentient creatures. It’s simple blood lust and it’s wrong.
Neun und Neunzig Toten Paviane
am I the only one finding it really hard to not post an image of a certain family of four?
