Autumn is approaching,What's your Favorite Autumn Song?
I love Autumn, the turning of the Leaves, the chill in the air.
What's your Favorite Autumn Song?
Love that song, actually got to see him perform in his later years.
My all time favorite autumn album is that one. It's been around for 60 years probably, quintessential autumn album. So well done. I wonder if it's available on CD?
The Ray Charles Singers are one of my favorite choral groups.
There is an old old joke that bears retelling (at my expense!):
me : I'm going to a concert to see Ray Charles.friend : Really? Which one, the one who is blind or the one who is deaf?
Here's the lineup:
- Autumn Nocturne
- Early Autumn
- A Faded Summer Love
- Autumn In Rome
- Indian Summer
- When The Leaves Bid The Trees Goodbye
- The Things We Did Last Summer Side
- 'Tis Autumn
- Autumn Leaves
- Shine On Harvest Moon
- September Song
- September In The Rain
- Autumn In New York

“Walking Man” by James Taylor
Moving in silent desperation, keeping an eye on the Holy Land.
A hypothetical destination, say, who is this walking man?
Well, the leaves have come to turning and the goose has gone to fly,
And bridges are for burning, so don’t you let that yearning pass you by.
Walking man, walking man walks.
Any other man stops and talks but the walking man walks.
Well the frost is on the pumpkin and the hay is in the barn.
Pappy’s come to rambling on, stumbling around drunk down on the farm.
And the walking man walks. Doesn’t know nothing at all.
Any other man stops and talks but the walking man walks on by, walk on by.
Most everybody’s got seed to sow. It ain’t always easy for a weed to grow, oh no.
So he don’t hoe the row for no one, for sure he’s always missing,
and something ain’t never quite right.
Ah, but who would want to listen to you kissing his existence good night?
Walking man walk. Walk on by my door. Well, any other man stops and talks
but not the walking man. He’s the walking man, born to walk, walk on walking man.
Well now, would he have wings to fly? Would he be free?
Golden wings against the sky, walking man, walk on by.
So long, walking man.
Don't look around
The leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Moondance, Van Morrison
I’ve always liked Caterina Valente’s version. When I was a kid and learning to sing, I had one of her albums.
The weird thing about Autumn is that it seems like everything is dying - but there’s always this strangely exciting undercurrent which suggests that everything is actually BEGINNING again :-)
