I had read that the Watergate Break In had to do with Operation 40. That was the black ops teams of CIA, Mafia, and Cuban Refugees that were trained assassination teams.
Nixon had authorized that set up-when he thought he would win the 1960 election, and some big money guy footed the bill on his say so.
The head of the DNC, had ties to the legal firm whose boss likely gave the go ahead to kill JFK. The CIA wanted to make sure whether or not the DNC head knew of Nixon’s involvement.
This theory still has Nixon as likely in the dark about the break in, but of course involved in the coverup. As many have observed, there was no need to bug the DNC, unless there was some dirty secret, because Nixon had the election in the bag otherwise.
Can you believe how criminal they made an attempt to bug an office, compared to the enormous scale of illegal surveillance that they did this time to DJT which they are trying to sell as protection of the country?

The most important phrase to me is “no need to bug”. It begs the question “then why do it?” My answer: they were after something else. It wasn’t about the election.
