Good thing they didn't steal roast beef. Deli counter meat is $$ but seriously.
Someone will crunch the numbers. 8 years 5 days a week.. 50 weeks a year
What price per pound? /s
Quite frankly I am surprised that a prosecutor would agree to the felony charge. Mainly because the only proof he/she has is the word of some other employee. A decent attorney would tear that up in court. Perhaps they had a camera in that area that captured her activities?
“an employee had been eating three to five slices of ham nearly every day over eight years.”
On top of his legal troubles, dude needs to see a cardiologist. That ain’t healthy.
Dang muslims.
My guess is they want to fire her, and are using this as a way to get her to leave quietly in exchange for dropping the charges.
My deli gives free slices to kids all day long.
Must be 100’s of slices a day...
Call Herr Mueller and has investigator Weissman.
This matter is clearly related to their investigation.
Michael Moore worked there?
That’s what I figure - there was a camera or two, otherwise she could easily deny it and, as you say, it would never fly in a court of law.
Well, that's just unacceptable.
The thief must have admitted to doing this for 8 years.
Otherwise , a sting operation on slices
3 to 5 slices weigh an ounce or two thinly sliced. Throughout the day they give samples. Dispose of old product

That was my thought. I hope you are right otherwise its vindictive. But I am guessing she is just a very poor union employee. In Illinois a deli counter person is a union person at many older grocery chains. So these people are making the charges big enough to get her fired. But if she leaves on her own, they will likely drop everything.
$9,200? Sounds like the cops when they issue a press release talking about the “street value” of a couple of bags of dope seized in a bust.
Either than, or the price of ham is too d@mn high!
3 to 5 SLICES of ham per day?
There must be something more here.
Any deli operators here?
Isn’t there that much waste in cut-off end pieces and scrap you can’t sell?
Ham is fairly lean. It's the salami topper that's the health problem here.
How can they prove that the perp ate the meat every day for 8 years? If they can't, it's not grand larceny, it's petty theft.
Maybe it was low sodium...
I would argue that it wasn’t the felony theft of $9,200 worth of the grocer’s merchandise, but a large number of petty thefts of a couple slices of baloney over a period of time. Heck, some of them might even be past the statute of limitations.
I hope they never calculate the number of single grapes I’ve eaten without paying for them over the years.
