A 23-year-old New Zealand woman has died after she and three friends jumped from a bridge in Sicamous, B.C.
RCMP say it happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday when all four people leaped from the Bruhn Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway.
The bridge is 20 metres above the Sicamous Channel connecting the popular boating areas of Shuswap and Mara lakes, 75 kilometres north of Vernon.
When the woman didn't resurface after the jump her friends found her and pulled her to shore where she was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead.
Police say there is nothing criminal about the death.
The B.C. Coroners Service is continuing an investigation and the woman's name will not be released.
The death is the second water-related fatality in Sicamous this summer and the Lifesaving Society of BC and Yukon says 34 drowning deaths had been recorded in B.C. up to August 1.
"While we want to encourage people to get out and enjoy all that the area has to offer, we cannot stress enough the importance of paying attention to advisories and signage which are put in place to ensure your safety," said Siacamous RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Murray McNeil.
In how many languages would that sign need to be?
Wouldn't matter if there was a sign. If it wasn't in New Zealandese, she couldn't have read it anyway[/obama]
My attempt at a joke in return was just crommier, that's all.
That there’s some SERIOUS mulletization... and impressive... legendary, even.
:^)
When I was a teen, hold my beer, and jump. Not as high but it was a bridge and you would go deep.
“Was there a sign saying Dont jump off the bridge? If not, I smell a lawsuit!”
NO! That only applies in America where the legal vultures sue everyone and everything regardless as to what signs or posted or of the stupidity of the person violating common sense. Other places in the world place the blame on the stupid individual who violates the laws of nature, common sense and legal postings. Here in America, alligators don’t wait below...lawyers for the “bait” of financial fortunes generated by those who are blameless for their own actions.
There should be no need to post a sign to not jump off a bridge. That should be obvious. Its 60 feet to the water.
The only reason to jump off the bridge is to risk death. If that is what you want to do, sometimes death wins. How can you sue when you intentionally put yourself in jeopardy?
This should be treated like a suicide. Just because it has a low probability of success does not make it any less a suicide, because flirting with death was the whole point.
Darwin Award?
I knew a guy who did that and ruptured his bladder.
A year later he still looked like warmed-over death.
There was one funny one...can't quite remember the exact wording...something like:
Danger Rumbunctious Cattle Crossing.
LOL at your sign (Post 14). Who reads the fine print at the bottom, anyway?
In the early 80s, I jumped from about 75 feet at a place near Fontana, California called Lost Lakes. I was in my early 20s then. Keeping your feet together was rule #1!
Darwin Award.
Bridge..2 am...and a 65 FOOT DROP to water. Certainly does sound like a “Here, hold muh beer” moment.

Might start a thread on this incident - where a girl was pushed off the bridge by a ‘friend’. Washington State.
Ok, but did you go to THE college? Or did you “go to college”?
“This should be treated like a suicide.”
Mustn’t there be intent for it to be suicide? I would think more like accidental death. Semantics. Dead is dead, but still...
go to THE college implies the local (mis)education facility go to college implies a near infinite number of education facilities one may attend.
When you are in a horrible accident they take you to THE nearest available saw-bones facility. They take you to THE hospital.
“If all your friends jumped off a bridge, then would you?”
All those tats out there says these little girls absolutely would!
“If all your friends got tats head to toe, would you??”
