Mars shocker: Liquid water lake found on the Red Planet
Fox News ^ | July 25, 2018 | Chris Ciaccia

Scientists have uncovered a "a stable body of liquid water" on Mars, in what some are calling a "game changer" in the search for alien life.

What is believed to be liquid water is sitting below Mars' southern polar ice cap and is described as a "well-defined, 20-kilometer-wide zone." 20 kilometers is roughly 12.5 miles.

The findings, which are published in the journal Science, were made possibly by Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding (MARSIS), an instrument that resides on the Mars Express spacecraft. MARSIS surveyed Mars' Planum Australe region between May 2012 and December 2015 and utilized radar pulses, sending them through the surface and the polar ice caps, ultimately measuring how the radio waves came back.

The pulses that came back created the aforementioned "well-defined, 20-kilometer-wide zone" and found that the radar reflected the brightness of the liquid water. The study's abstract notes that it is surrounded by "much less reflective areas," a sign that it is indeed water.

The team that wrote the study, including lead author Professor Roberto Orosei, have ruled out any other causes for the brightness.

Speaking with the BBC, Orosei said it probably isn't "a very large lake," but added that this is a body of water and not runoff from a glacier or something else.

Well, there’s the solid type of water and the vapor kind.

As a Christian I have no problem with the idea that there may have been a civilization on Mars. The bible is for the ages beginning at Genesis 1:3 and human beings living on Earth after that. What happened before that or on other planets or star systems is all part of the mystery.

Lets get a trade deal before we rack up another trade deficit.

Which brings to mind...

What NASA should do is send a probe and rover to the Cydonia region and take a close look at the “Face” and the region around it.

The "Face" doesn't really exist, as such, anymore. Or was it simply defaced/obliterated when the Martians figured out we had seen it?

Correct, the “face” either doesn’t exist or has been obliterated via manipulation of the images. But from any lighting condition or angle the very high symmetry of the plateau still persists. There’s a straight horizontal line that intercepts the points where the curve at the top intersects the sides.

Carlotto (and others) have made the point that the plateau is non-fractal like naturally occurring formations. The image has been run thru the software intelligence agencies and the military uses to detect camouflaged military installations and indicated that it’s 97% likely to be artificial.

The weight of the evidence suggests that it is artificial so we should take a much closer look (if we haven’t already).

Brings to mind:

The John Carter of Mars series, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Out of the Silent Planet, by C.S. Lewis

And of course, there are those canals.

"It means that the weight used in a vehicle for fuel to go to Mars was just cut in half."

Actually, I don't think so... Maybe the weight of the vehicle returning from Mars but not the one going to Mars.

This comes too late for the Soviet Union, though.

You would only need fuel for one way.

Without water, it would take twice as much (thereabouts) to get you there and back. Real water means you wouldn’t have to come back. At least not right away.

So we can colonize now that water has been found?

It might have a high salt or other mineral content and need to be distilled for use. But it's a start.

Is there any other kind?

Three stages; gas, liquid, solid. Depends on temperature. Fourth grade science, right?

Right, so without geothermal activity and an air temperature at the pole of ~ -150 F just how is this water, because it reflected light in a similar same wavelength?

Something is going on regarding mars. I would not be surprised to find out there really was a civilization there at one time. I’m not saying I believe it now, but I would not be shocked, based on what I HAVE seen in those photos.

Mars MAY have been stripped of most of its atmosphere and water during a near miss with another celestial body passing by. "Worlds in Collision" (1950, Immanuel Velikovsky) theorizes how this MAY have happened and is an interesting read.
