Austin, TX, May 03, 2018 --(PR.com)-- DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victims' group dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks, releases a multi-year U.S. dog bite fatality report. From January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2017, canines killed at least 433 people. The majority of these victims were ages 10 and older. The 9-page report examines over 20 factors involved in fatal dog maulings and key changing metrics since a government body last examined this issue in 2000.

The 13-year report shows that pit bulls contributed to 66% of all dog bite fatalities. Within this period, deaths attributed to pit bulls rose from 58% (2005 to 2010) to 71% (2011 to 2017), a 22% rise. Rottweilers, the second most lethal dog breed, inflicted 10% of attacks resulting in death. This is a decrease from an earlier period (2005 to 2010) when rottweilers inflicted 14% of the total recorded deaths. Together, these two dog breeds accounted for 76% of all deaths.

The 9-page report examines the breeds involved in fatal attacks on humans, age groups and genders of the victims, the number of dogs involved, family and dog relationships, property statistics, household and time factors, criminal prosecutions following fatal dog attacks and states with the most occurrences. The report also compares two metrics -- the age of victims and the number of attacks involving 2 or more dogs -- to years previously studied (1979 to 1998) ...

I do sleep better at night knowing my daughter has the dog with her. So does she. Big secret is the dog just barks and looks menacing. Would easily scare anyone away. When I keep her, she makes the most chilling, disturbing low growl when my housekeeper comes through the door. But then she runs and hides behind me.

From your keyboard to the courts’ ears.

I also support draconian penalties for the owners of dogs who cause harm or death.

As it is, usually, they kill the dumb animal to get some kind of psychological “justice/revenge” but the even dumber animal walks off scot free and then just goes out and buys another throwaway dog.

The wrong end of the leash is being ‘put down’.

Make the owners pay for the dogs’ sins and this crap will stop right quick.

Amen, brother. Why the heck Congress hasn’t lowered the boom on this barbarous behavior is beyond me.

The literal God-sent stray Doberman who instantly stopped my pedo uncle was the biggest wuss Dobe on earth.

He was old, had distemper teeth, loved everyone madly and wouldn’t have barked if the world depended on it...but the pedo uncle was terrified of him.

After 4 years of hiding in the house, I was able to once again run the ridges and mountains, carefree and safe, thanks to that old dog.

The one thing he had in his favor was the “Dobe smile”, that some of them do.

He honestly meant his toothy grin as a joyous welcome but very few saw it that way.

If not for him, I don’t care to think what terrible path I may have chosen, later.

I’m a girl.

:)

I have no idea why.

Maybe for the same reason that “mothers” can kill their babies and dance away from the abortion clinics, laughing.

Punish the thing that has no voice and no choice, instead.

It’s one messed up world.

[sometimes, I wonder if it’s not because of the “demographics” of the average dog fighter...protected classes]

We should move pit bulls to the border.

They say a dog can see your soul. Glad you had that dog. They truly are gifts from God.

I’ve got my third rescue pit bull now, a three legged female named Bella. She sleeps with my kids and is the sweetest dog.

Pit bulls are the only breed of dog I’ll own.

Sorry, sister! And the demographics thing crossed my mind, too. Pity we're civilized. The lex talionis penalty I have in mind would work even better than locking up the expletives-deleted breeding and/or fighting these animals.

My dad was always terrified of my Dobes.

Constantly bugging me about them, with the usual hyperbole.

And then we had a local ‘crime spree’ with people breaking into houses at night.

The old man actually said to me so quietly, I almost didn’t hear him, “Well, I’m glad you got that big ugly black bastard watching over you”

*Jaw drop*

:D

Dogbite was started by a cynophobic woman. Only place they can find the false info they want.
Post facts from pitbullfacts.org and they all run away.

I could tell you a dozen stories of just that, even when the person *seemed* to be the most wonderful thing ever...but the dogs wanted their blood.

And later, I’d find out why and that the dogs were *always* right.

And then I’ve misjudged the other way, too.

Been scared by a superficially dangerous looking guy but the dogs lavished him with love.

They are my go-to judges of character because obviously, I suck at it.

:)

Anyone who whips out “lex talionis” in a conversation is awesome, by me.

And yes, we must never mention the unspoken reality of the miscreants who create these tragedies.

Would love to see *those* “percentages”.

That would work because they’d all stop, line up the dogs and start betting on them.

But, but...but...how are pits not responsible for 100% of dog bite fatalities?

I think all breeds on the list should be banned, just to be equitable.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers are both AKC recognized breeds.

Have been, for a very long time.

Watch a dog show and you’ll see 30 of them in a ring all peacefully focused on their handlers and utterly ignoring each other.

Why?

Because they’re raised by good people who do not abuse or torment them into becoming monsters.

And the judge is allowed to dismiss any dog who shows signs of aggression to humans or other dogs.
