On Sunday, a day we as a nation set aside to honor fathers and the bonds of family, I was among the millions of Americans who watched images of children who have been torn from their parents. In the six weeks between April 19 and May 31, the Department of Homeland Security has sent nearly 2,000 children to mass detention centers or foster care. More than 100 of these children are younger than 4 years old. The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders.
I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.
Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history. We also know that this treatment inflicts trauma; interned Japanese have been two times as likely to suffer cardiovascular disease or die prematurely than those who were not interned.
Americans pride ourselves on being a moral nation, on being the nation that sends humanitarian relief to places devastated by natural disasters or famine or war. We pride ourselves on believing that people should be seen for the content of their character, not the color of their skin. We pride ourselves on acceptance. If we are truly that country, then it is our obligation to reunite these detained children with their parents and to stop separating parents and children in the first place.

Mike Douglas was unavailable for comment.
Democrats, media and GOP elite are really going all out on this one.
She and all the other supporters of illegal immigration and open borders were calling Obama a hero for “rescuing” the children. The media made it sound as though toddlers were making their way from Guatemala on their own and desperately needed our care when they arrived. Of course it was all a scam, and enough of us knew that to elect Trump.
I’m sick of it too. The media and leftist politicians are disgraceful.
It definitely feels that way.
Kate Steinle’s family is still waiting for the phone call from Laura Bush
Where was she when Obama was putting kids in cages?
No where.
All she's doing is running cover for Jeb the Bush family cellar boy.
His support of open borders and illegal immigration were a chunk of the reason for his unpopularity. Only when a ruckus was raised with him did he hire more Border Patrol and sign the Secure Fence Act. The BP hired were not allowed to do their job, and the fence was no where near what was promised and was only built where the public would see it- a huge scam on we the people. To this day large numbers of our citizens believe there is a secure fence on the entire border, and think that Trump is crazy for wanting a wall.
Stuttering drunk and Saudi Gimp Boy George Junior too plastered to be seen in public?
His awful wife has to go out to spew the vile family’s open-borders propaganda.
Again, fuck the Bush clan for being useless, thieving, over-bred, parasites.
Remember when a particular Bush puked on the Japanese Prime Minister.
Enjoy your meal George Takei. That Rohwer photo really is good Japanese cultural propaganda.
“Hey Laura, set up your Crawford ranch to house these families. Stop with the fake concern claims.”
When the dust settles and the deep state has been shitcanned I hope that president Trump uses eminent domain to build illegal immigrant holding camps in Malibu, the Bay Area, and on the Bush properties in Texas.
If Kate's last name were al-Saud, the Bush family would have been there with knee pads on.
Apparently their families are just fine with it, Larry,
So f*cking sick of this BS.
Still waiting for them to start caring about Americans...
They will fight tooth and nail against everything except #4.
We need to keep doing what we are doing, and ramp it up as we go until the border is secured and illegals are not an issue.
We are fighting for our very country with this battle. I have thought all along with all the serious issues this country faces- the border issues would end up being the toughest battle, I am still convinced of that.
Large amounts of money/votes/power involved on the side that supports open borders and illegal immigration. They have no concern if it destroys our country, as long as they can fill their pockets until the end.
The Bushes support babies as human sacrifices and sex trafficking like their Aztec and Mayan ancestors.
They are pimps, not parents, Mrs Bush, but then again you are for abortion too, so it is logical you would support pimps
True..read an interesting tweet on twitter..someone said because of Bush’s wars people were separated from their children PERMANENTLY! For all the times I defended the Bush’s during their Administration..I regret ever defending them, they are just as disgusting as the Obama’s except with the Obama’s we knew what we were getting
