Fandom has always been an us versus them proposition. In the early days, it was because you loved something that the world at large found silly, be it comic books or Doctor Who. It was you and those who felt like you, against everyone else. Star Wars redefined fandom because it built a bigger tent than had ever existed before. Suddenly, the "everyone else" also loved Star Wars. Your mom knew what The Force was. Mark Hamill was on The Tonight Show. There was Yoda underwear. It was the first real “fan” thing that exploded into a phenomenon. But fandom always needs a “them.”
Star Wars is in an interesting place right now. The most recent film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been drastically underperforming at the box office. After two weeks in release, it had pulled in a mere $271 million worldwide. Analysts believe Disney will lose $50 million or more on the film, and Solo comes on the heels of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which — despite making $1.3 billion worldwide — proved itself an incredibly divisive film. While critics loved it (judging by the 91 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes), fans were split.
Some loved the bold liberties of writer-director Rian Johnson. They understood that there was room under that big tent for characters like Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), women placed alongside Carrie Fisher’s Leia and Ridley’s Rey at the center of the Star Wars drama.

Sorry, the problem with the movies is venturing off the original George Lucas theme and movie—inserting perverted characters, having bad characters, having a weak, flat story, etc. Today’s folks do not understand what made Star Wars such a success. They are not George Lucas.
ROFL so it's the fans' fault the fans don't like the new movies. . .People like Marc Bernadin don't need to watch science fiction movies, they already live in an alternate reality. As for blaming "trolls who want only the nostalgia of their youth" I've talked to fans ranging in age from their teens to their 40s who agreed A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back were better than the prequels and the new sequels.
Bad writing, bad directing, and bad acting killed The Last Jedi.

The article makes a few possible points after the usual cries of racism. That old fans are old and the new Star Wars is for young people. But. Fact is Star Wars began failing to deliver what the Fans wanted after the original three. Leftist activism was just the last straw.

These crappy story lines that’s veering away from basic Star Wars acceptance; the rush to kill of old fan favorites [killed of Admiral Ackbar in a footnote]; trying to put PC/SJW in there instead of making a great movie; don’t give us a Kylo-Luke fight and Rey can do high level Jedi moves all by herself with very little training; don’t need to know about her parents either because it doesn’t matter

But The Last Jedi was a hit and a lot of people loved it. I agree it sucked on many levels. I do think a lot of fans finally were chased away by the leftism. I haven’t seen Solo, my impression is it’s good but many think they made Lando a bisexual so they stayed away.
I have a bad feeling about all this...
So you are a bigot and a troll by default if you don’t like the latest “leavings” from the studios. Really a new approach to marketing they got there.
Lucas said there were 9 movies to be made, and that is all I wanted him to do, but he burned out or just didn’t give a shite any more and he sold out to Disney.
Pity.
I could love a movie full of minorities and women. Example: Black Panther. I can even deal with liberal bs in a movie. I can accept gay characters (Deadpool 2) IF IF IF the movie is really good. Last Jedi sucked and Solo was a self inflicted wound with that “Lando is bi” interview.
The article has one point. As an older fan I thought Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill were the only good things in the new movies. I thought the only thing that would save the series after Force Awakens would have been finding out Luke saved Han after he fell. Treating them both as expendable was unforgivable.
