Netflix Turning Too Blue? Republicans’ Perception of the Brand Has Dropped, Data Shows
Variety ^ | June 2, 2018 | Todd Spangler

Hollywood’s left-leaning politics has made the industry a bête noire among conservatives for decades. But Netflix has made some recent moves that have especially rankled Republicans.

In March, the streamer named Susan Rice — former national security adviser to President Obama, and a conservative target in the Bengazi scandal — to its board of directors. Last month, Netflix officially announced an exclusive multiyear deal with the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions for original programming. And last week, it premiered “The Break with Michelle Wolf” — a late-night-style show from the comedian who delivered a blistering takedown of the Trump administration and other conservative politicos at the White House Correspondents Association dinner.

We just canceled Netflix. Have had Amazon Prime for years but not used the video services. We are getting rid of cable soon so will be using Amazon Video and other streaming services. At $10 a month, it is still a deal. I use their shopping service a lot so the free shipping is easily worth the yearly fee. I also use Walmart for a few things to order and pick up in the store. As I told my husband, when we learned of the Amazon increase, their yearly fee is less than any monthly bill we pay.

Amazon is at least as leftist as Netflix.

I really don’t care if Netflix is commie rat or not. I just care if they are delivering a good product at a good price.

Netflix is a mixed bag. Some of their shows (The Crown, Stranger Things) are excellent. Others are mediocre.

iF you are ok with watching movies a bit later than their debut, Redbox works. We’ve used it in the past.

That’s all well and good, but when you cancel the service, do you actually speak to a real live person, so you can tell them where they can shove their programming?

No but there is a place to add your reason for leaving.

“TURN Washington’s Spies” and “Longmire” are both over now.

Glad I cancelled about 6 months ago.

That’s precisely how they did mine

Reed Hastings is the shot caller ......very liberal

Ted Sarandos is the content boss......even more liberal

The rest of the brass are women and gen xers

Contrary to type it’s a waspy albeit heavily laden fembot outfit

Hastings is a Bowdoin grad....it doesn’t get WASPIER

Conservatives simply rarely do content and content is the key.....that cannot be stressed enough

Hastings dedication to his own content has made him arguably the capi did tutti Hollywood mogul he’s become in less than ten years

From DVD overnight mail order to a streaming giant that produces its own shows and movies and series and does it well and in volume that Iger can only dream of all in house

Have you tried your local library? We have caught up on whole series that we have missed in the past due to busy working lives. I can sit in the comfort of my home and request a title and they contact me when it is at my local branch for pick up. Most movies/series can be checked out for 7 days but I can re-new online (if no one is waiting for it)
I have gotten a lot of great recommendations for things to watch by reading threads like this on FReerepublic. Shows I would never known about.
We got rid of cable 2 years ago and don’t miss it. Plus the library selections are free.

I don’t think Netflix gives a hoot about losing American customers.

They have their eyes on INDIA...the Land of Enchantment and population explosion.

Campaign contributor helped Obamas score Netflix deal

The couple last week signed a creative production deal with Netflix that one entertainment industry source said could be valued at more than $50 million.

Ted Sarandos, a major campaign contributor for Obama and the streaming giant’s creative content chief who oversees an $8 billion budget, helped to broker the deal, the source told The Post.

Sarandos and his wife, Nicole Avant, bundled nearly $600,000 in contributions to Obama from their friends and associates during the 2012 presidential campaign.

The couple is friends with the Obamas, and Avant served as US ambassador to the Bahamas from 2009 to 2011, during the former president’s first term.

Her father, Clarence, a music exec, bundled a total of nearly $450,000 for Obama’s presidential campaigns.

wiki:

Avant was appointed United States Ambassador to the Bahamas by President Barack Obama on June 16, 2009, and was sworn in on September 9, 2009 and served until November 22, 2011.[2] [3]

Avant resigned her post in November 2011. She then assisted with fundraising for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election. A 2012 United States State Department report[8] noted that Avant’s appointment was preceded by “an extended period of dysfunctional leadership and mismanagement.” The report was critical of Avant’s frequent travel and use of the office in the Ambassador’s residence rather than the office inside the U.S. Embassy. The report was also complimentary of Avant’s work with law enforcement and her relationships with the local government and concluded that she had been “an effective communicator of U.S. policy and advocate for U.S.-Bahamian relations.” [8] Upon her resignation, The Tribune praised the Ambassador as one of the more popular U.S. Ambassadors to ever serve in the Bahamas.[9]

Avant is married to Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix,[10][11]

Another Obama fundraiser turns out to be a bad ambassador

According to a new State Department inspector general’s report on the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas, Ambassador Nicole Avant presided over “an extended period of dysfunctional leadership and mismanagement, which has caused problems throughout the embassy” since she was appointed by the president in 2009. Prior to being America’s envoy in the Caribbean, Avant was Southern California finance co-chairwoman of Obama’s presidential campaign and vice president of Interior Music Publishing.

According to her glowingly positive Wikipedia page, Avant spent her time in the Bahamas “focused on five priority initiatives: Education, Alternative Energy, Economic and Small Business Development, Women’s Empowerment and Raising awareness of the challenges facing people with disabilities.”

But according to the State Department’s internal investigation, Avant was away from the embassy an inordinate amount of time — mainly shuttling back and forth to her home in Los Angeles — and when she was in town, she worked from her residence most of the day.

Avant was absent from the embassy 276 days between September 2009 and November 2011, including 102 “personal” days and 77 “work travel” days to the United States, of which only 23 were on official orders.

Redbox ownership is most likely the same as all the others...
