If all goes well, a young Han Solo and his band of outcasts will take out Captain Jack Sparrow and set a new Memorial Day weekend record at the box office.
Disney and Lucasfilm's spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story is tracking to open to $130 million to $150 million over the long holiday weekend, with $130 million being on the low end of expectations. To date, the Memorial Day weekend record-holder for the top domestic launch is 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End with $139.8 million, not adjusted for inflation.

ROFL! I actually walked out on Raiders in the movies when I first saw it (now, it’s one of my favorite movies). It had been advertised as a Disney-type movie and I was totally unprepared for someone dying every few seconds. Later, after the shock, I really came to enjoy the movie (loved number III best).
I made my first professional writing credit writing a SW story for West End games. One of my proudest moments when I actually cashed a check for my work.
Got my ticket! 10:45 AM.
The parodies from decades past are now better than the "serious" sci-fi movies. Sad. This P.C./SJW nonsense is corrosive to everything it touches.
My boyfriend (at the time) cried all through ET. I just sat there and looked at him.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry
You’ll kiss $3.50 good-bye!
So “only” a bit shy of the record for the weekend. 90% of movies don’t make that much in their entire run.
LOL, that was funny. :D
George Lucas without a computer is “Howard the Duck.”
The ONE thing that I am truly looking forward to when this movie comes out is RedLetterMedia’s review of it.
Wow. That is really cool!
Just saw it.
It Was AWESOME :)
OK, a bit overdone, the train robbery.
Han was very much the star. So he’s not a clone or CGI double of Harrison Ford circa 1977. Good enough for me.
How he got his name...
How he met Chewbacca...
Winning the Falcon from Lando...not when you expect...
BTW, Lando only gets the hots for the cute girl...and I kept seeing her as Danaerys Targaryen and imagining her in the state of nature :)
TWO surprise castings, both drew their own applause...one of them for the actor, the other for the actor/character...
SJW message? Meh... No more so than the message that made my double-great grandfather join a regiment of volunteer infantry upon a time...
“No one has made the Kessel Run in under 20 parsecs!” ... “Hold muh beer” (well, not quite...)
So THAT”S why the Falcon looked like a “piece of junk” to Luke so long ago (in our era)...
No vilification of religion, Americanism (I found the violent pro-liberty interlude very American on both counts!),poly-ticks or honkitude...
Anyway, it was the very first showing in my metro area. Yeah, sparsely attended, but yeah. most folks are at work, and if I wasn’t on a “four ten-hour day” schedule, I would be too!
...which leads me to believe that NOT ONE PERSON in this grumpy get-off-my-lawn thread had actually SEEN it before trashing it.
No yawns!!
I wonder why you thought it important to offer that comment.
Virtue signalling, maybe :)
The very first villain is a female-sounding monstrosity that resembles a giant bug and is hurt by exposure to light.
Sounds like Hildabeast to me!
BTW here comes Incredibles II :)
Hear! Hear!
(and See! See!)
:)
nerds
I didn’t “trash it”, I just said insofar as I’m over 12-years-old, the entire genre doesn’t interest me at all.
Thanks for the report..
Can’t wait!
