Anyone put any stock in IQ, IQ organizations?

I know that FReepers tend to be the most intelligent people on the planet, if not the salt-of-the-earth, generous beings in existence. So, does anyone give any veracity to IQ (Intelligence Quotient) test scores? Has anyone had theirs tested?

Any FReepers who are members of Mensa?

Reason I'm asking is that I've never (knowingly) had mine tested. Also, a friend who is really down on himself needs a pick-me-up, and I'm going to mention having his IQ tested as an ego boost, since I know he's at least average.

I know this score is mostly irrelevant as far as competence, but just wanted to pick your brains ?:)

I recall taking those tests and there was one in particular that bogged me down pretty good. I was only able to get to the 7th question in the 30 minutes allowed. Not RR Timetables but a spatial cognition series.

For years I questioned myself about why I did not just skip over until I got to solvable problems. I think that you are right about the purpose of it.

I scored pretty high on those tests, but it always annoyed me about that one portion.

I only had a two year active duty commitment and was a stupid 18 y/o. To agree to those schools or OCS would mean extending my enlistment by as much as 4 years. I made the STUPID decision and said “No”. Ended up in V-2 Catapults Division on a carrier.

I did exactly the same thing having served a hitch in the Army got out and worked a couple years, got laid off and decided to go see the world. I wound up a seaman on a Tanker chipping paint. Looked for a better job, First thing the came up was cook. I convinced the Commissary Chief I was a cook and became one. Worked my @ss off but all in all I enjoyed my two years. (63-65)We were on Yankee Station when Kennedy got shot, had no clue until we met the fleet for an unrep.

I did finally complete college and taught computer literacy in high school for a while until overrun by Homosexual agenda, been retired for 17 years.

They revamped all their testing so you would have to check the actual year you took those tests to know if you score qualified but likely did. In 65 Mensa accepted any score over 67 or 68 from the Navy, Army scored different don't remember number but over a 100.

I am a member of Mensa, and also of INTERTEL, which is similar, but only accepts the TOP HALF of Mensa. Then, there is the society for the DUMBEST people in the world - it is called DENSA.

MENSA is WAY more socially “normal”, and less nerdy, than INTERTEL, let me assure you!

Don't tell me, Densa is an organization of msm and Democrat politicians?

I have to say, I am quite impressed with the number of FReepers who claim to be Mensa members or eligible. This kind of blows away the utterly false accusation of DUmmies who characterize us as “mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers.”

I hope some of them are lurking :)

I have to ask, are there different levels/chapters of Mensa which are independent? I found Mensa International and an American version. Are they different or affiliated?
