I apologize in advance for troubling you but would like a specific clarification. Two of my grandchildren were born in German hospitals, on German soil, while my son-in-law, career enlisted in the Army, was stationed in Germany and deployed to Iraq. He had been posted in Germany the family living on post there before being deployed to Iraq. This meant my daughter and the older child were left on the German post while s-i-l served in Iraq. Daughter and older child were living on a U.S. Army post, military housing, but there was no army hospital with obstetrics.

From your previous posts it sounds like those 2 grandbabies are like “no name” and won’t be officially Natural Born Citizens. Am I reading that right? The kids were restationed back on US soil 14 years ago. I am just now connecting these dots.

When the natural born citizen and 0bola research threads were active, people posted with similar situations - and the clear conclusion, plus from State Dept. info, that children born overseas to mil parents, even on base, were not natural born citizens. Citizens, yes. Natural born, no. In civics classes in high schools, a few decades ago, taught the meaning of NBC - born to two citizen parents, on US soil.

It’s never really been decided. There have been cases associated with parent citizenship. McCain was considered by Congress as NBC. He was born on a base in Panama.

Most military bases are considered US soil just like an Embassy is considered US soil...depends on how the base was established with the locals.

So if born to citizen parents (debate on 1 vs 2) in a hospital on base would be considered US soil therefore NBC.

Supremes need to put it to bed ... but they won’t

American bases, territories, embassies, military aircraft, ships, etc ARE sovereign US Territory. Children born in the US or Sovereign US territory are Natural Born Citizens just as if born in downtown USA.

Some stations and installations are tenants and may not fit the “Sovereign Territory” status. IMO.

If you had been born on my airplane in flight I would see you as Natural Born since US mil regulations declare my aircraft sovereign US territory. Foreign Countries May Not Enter US territory w/o approval.
