One person was killed and a second person injured in a cougar attack near North Bend Saturday.
The attack happened in a very remote area northeast of Snoqualmie. According to the King County Sheriff's Office, two men were riding road bikes when the cougar attacked both of them.
A 31-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries; he was alert and listed in serious condition.
The second man fled into the woods to escape the cougar, but the animal chased after him. Search crews found the second man dead from the attack. The King County Sheriff's Office says a recovery mission underway for for the man's body.

For cougars, bicyclists are meals on wheels.

This is still an uncivilized world, and if a people become too civilized to do whats necessary to survive in an uncivilized world, theyre not going to survive.
I blame Disney. Anthropomorphism has changed the way Man views his world. His ancestors knew it was a dangerous world and it was kill or be killed. Nowadays, humans believe the animal will instinctively "respect" his right to live if "in his heart he believes the same."
One sees this behavior every year when tourist get near buffalo in Yellowstone or bears in Alaska.
One fellow not too long ago believed he was"at one" with the grizzly bears in a park in Alaska. He got away with this behavior.... for a while. But, despite warnings from the park rangers to keep his distance from them, got himself and his poor girlfriend killed and eaten by a grizzly.
It had to be killed.
Stupid "friend of the bears"

I love that video out there of a mule killing a cougar. Only saw one while on foot once. Was low and slinky running the opposite direction from me through sage. I had a 30-30 with me and was not afraid. But generally, I know they are looking at me all the time and I just never see them.

Timmy Treadwell and his girlfriend were eaten alive by bears. Sound recording of the attack, too.

$hit happens. Let the Cat go, or worst case give it a nice big fenced in habitat with some “companionship” Cats give chase, even in Orange County CA. we had a Mountain Biker chased down and killed 10 years or so back.

City progressives have also forced the USFS / BLM hand : massive “vacating of grazing permits.”
Sheep herders and cowboys would drop any predator attacking their livestock, too.

Timmy Treadwell and his girlfriend
That's right, thank you.
Saw the documentary about him on Discovery(I think)
Didn't know the story before I watched it but not long into the show, I said, "This will not end well"
Yep.
Don't belief his "elevator when to the top floor". Mental illness plus rank stupidity in the wild will get one killed. Pity for the girlfriend.

why is there a “recovery mission” if they already found his dead body?

We took the kids to a wildlife refuge that had some cougars. We followed the owner as he feed them. He took a couple of frozen chickens and tossed them over the fence. The sound of those two cougars chomping down on what was essentially the same size as a human head - that REALLY gave me the creeps.

197lbs is big, but they get bigger in Washington.
There’s a bar/burger joint on the hiway leading up to Ranier National Park that has a picture of one hanging from a tree from the 1970s.
It was 12ft from nose to tail and 240lbs.
Certified.

And the Roosevelt Elk of Washington can exceed 800lbs.

According to Seattle reporter on twitter, cat was killed and body recovered. 100lb male cougar between the age of 3 and 4. Will be tested including DNA (?). Claims that the biking pair were part of the state DNR.

Easy to say “don’t run”, but I’ve been stalked, and I want to tell you, that atavistic feeling takes the brain straight back to the paleolithic. I’m saving this article for the next guy who asks me why I carry.

“If these hikers had guns,”
Washington is a shall issue state.
Last I checked they had the highest percentage of CCW holders in the country.
