The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.

From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be gardening.

Greetings from Missouri. We've had quite a lot of rain this week, so the ground has not been ideal for planting.

Hoping we dry out this weekend. I have transplanted some plants to larger pots, and taken them outside until the ground is ready for transplanting.

Lemon tree is beginning to form tiny lemons. Some are still blooming and smelling good. It's still in the green house. May move it out soon. Heat is really getting up there in Green house.

Hope all is going well with everyone. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Everyone should check out the “Love Your Garden” series. A British show. You can find it on Netflix and YouTube.

Lost my bees; they absconded when the queen failed to escape her cage. I have more on order. Hopefully, they found a new home, and will become feral pollinators. Unfortunately, they won’t last, since they can’t raise a queen without larvae to raise up: no queen, no babies; no babies, no new queen.

So far, we’ve cut over 200 stalks of asparagus. Less than 5 of them have been from the 4-5 YO purple varieties. Those established quickly, and just as quickly peaked, then about 8 out of the 12 have died out & the remaining are about on par with our 2 or 3 YO old standards. Meanwhile the oldest plants, are still spreading & producing like gangbusters.

This past Sunday & Monday—my days off—saw a stack of feed sacks full of pine cones, a circle about 10’ in diameter, chipped & tilled in in a major and a minor section if the garden.

Planted shallots, and seeded 2 hills each of 3 types of squash: two winter keepers, and Cocozelle (Italian Marrow squash).

Right now, the weather has cooled, and is foggy & drizzly, with rain & possible thundershowers predicted for the next week...except Sunday.

ZFruit trees are finally starting to bloom.

Wow TB, your garden looks so much neater than mine. The ground has thawed here and I have 7 rows of potatoes, 1 row of turnip and 2 rows of rutabagas planted. They are frost tolerant so I got them in early for the Colorado Rockies growing season. I have many types of heirloom tomatoes in containers. They are outdoors on the deck tonight, but I bring them inside if there is a chance of frost. I will probably plant them in the garden in about 6 weeks when the chance of freeze is over.

Moved my tomato (cherry) and Sweet Million tomato starter plants outside - this time under the deck bench to protect them from the Sun until they mature.

There are jalapeno pepper, Serrano pepper, and Sweet Snacking pepper plants, also under the bench for the same reason.

My Two/three Bush Early Girl plants look like they’re not going to make it - I might trade them - we’ll see.

Other than that, my 62+ onion plants seem to be going strong - gonna have to give some away I think. 18 watermelon seeds/plants in the lower bed along with 6 yellow squash plants (din’t intend to put them there but have to for now).

So, we’ll see. Sent ya FReepmail.

It’s been bone dry here in Central Missouri this week. We’ve had a couple teaser clouds roll through with some sprinkles, but not enough to even lay the dust. If this keeps up it’s going to be bad summer.

I finished cleaning up the kitchen garden after work today. Tomorrow I’ll get my tomato plants stuck in the dirt.

The green beans I seeded earlier in the week are starting to come up. Same for the cukes. I found seeds for the Russian pickle cukes that Mrs. Augie likes at Shumway’s. Those should show up in the mailbox early next week.

Nanner is still in the shop but I’m gaining. With luck I’ll have the last of the repairs finished by Wednesday.

Nice pics. Those gardens are so neat. Mine are always a bit scruffy looking.

Sorry to hear that about the bees. You have made good progress it seems. Hubby has done quite a bit, but is behind due to jobs coming up and weather not co-operating.

Those berries look good. I noticed that somehow or other the weeds have taken over hubby’s berry pyramids. I have a lot of spaces left in my strawberry bed. I see your corn is still in process of growing in the starter pots.

Well, glad you’ve made progress with Nanner. Too bad we couldn’t send you one or two days of our rain. We have had more than enough for a couple of weeks.

I have a kitchen garden - but it has no plants. Hubby never got around to cutting the tree that shades it in the morning, and the house shades it the rest of the day except for about 1 hr. per day.

I have been thinking about using it to bury kitchen scraps and develop really rich dirt that could be transferred elsewhere later. In other words-growing dirt. LOL

I have so much to do in the garden, and as luck would have it, my repetitive stress injuries in my arms are really acting up. So I have to sit with ice and heat on my arms and look out the window and see all the weeds growing so well :-(

Hope everyone else is able to enjoy gardening! I guess I get to live vicariously for now. But if I don’t get my seeds in the ground soon…
