Michelle Wolf's act at the Correspondents dinner was a setup to frame the White House. With any kind of reaction by them, the correspondents would have savaged Trump and the White House staff.
Why do I believe this. Ask yourself just why Kathy Griffen was there (yes the one who did the bloody Trump head thing) and look at Kathy's comments afterwards.
Unfortunately for them and the hopeful correspondents, it Bombed, just as Trump tweeted.

After this year there’s no longer any justification for any Republican to lend legitimacy to this sordid leftist smear-orgy. If there weren’t any Republicans there, Big Media would have been able to get away with creating any narrative about this “event” they desired.
With Republican witnesses present, they have to be more careful about which lies they publish.

Comics by nature are anti-establishment?, but I guess that doesn’t apply to liberals. Wouldn’t liberals still be considered establishment but just liberal in nature? I don’t remember Kathy Griffin going after Clinton or Obama at all.

If they decide not to televise, well then they are free to have any kind of event they wish at least decent republicans would not be lending it any legitimacy.

I read some woman ‘journalist,’ (or editor; who cares) from WaPo, iirc, who praised Sanders for just sitting there and taking it. Instantly I knew something was wrong. This same feminist would have had a stroke if a conservative talked that way about a leftist. But conservative women ARE punching bags in the eyes of feminists so of course Sanders was expected to simply sit there and absorb the punishment.
I didn’t know it was televised, but that would just further facilitate our domestic enemies to edit the propaganda however they wish in the absence of any pro-American witnesses.
Had Sanders or Conway attended before? Probably good for them to experience the kind of mindless hate and bullying personally directed to their faces for which Big Media is especially proficient and proud.
Trump learned the lesson of the Democrats. They will set you up and stab you in the back at every turn if you don’t give them what they want.
This dinner turned into the leftist version of a KKK Townhall meeting, and Trump should treat the media like the filthy heirs to the KKK that the DNC and they represent.
My guess is Sarah Huckabee Sanders realized the video and audio of this vective was political gold and didn't walk out. Sometimes, you draw enemy fire in the hopes of taking the hill. Indeed, just a quick perusal of the handful of things Ms Wolf has done (especially the BBC special "American Autopsy") suggests the WH knew EXACTLY where Ms Wolf's bit would lead.
The key to success in this saga, is to NOT respond in kind to all the statist/media virtue-signaling. That is, Repubs should soak in all the MSM throwing of Ms Wolf under the bus, and beat the daylights out of the media, Dems with this faux olive branch.
The WH and Deplorables should NOT accept this #FakeApology and instead double-down on pointing out how out-of-touch statists and NeverTrumpers are with Normal Americans. A couple of memes with Ms Wolf and Harvey Weinstein together would be awesome icing-on-the-cake.

I think no matter what they do they will always spin it to their advantage, the thing is we don’t have to be there and become the target. By not going Republicans would be emphasizing how biased the press is.
I’m sure Kelly Anne has been before, but I don’t know about Sanders. The fact that Sarah was sitting on the dais means that she was offered a special invitation by the WHCA. In my opinion that made this episode even more despicable.
